How is charcoal made?
One is kiln burning, which is to build a kiln with mud, fill it with wood, and then ignite it to make the wood carbonize in the kiln and the volatiles escape. The other is dry distillation, that is, wood is placed in a dry distillation kiln and heated to decompose charcoal under the condition of air isolation, which is wood dry distillation.
Charcoal is a dark brown or black porous solid fuel left by incomplete combustion of wood or wood raw materials or pyrolysis under the condition of air isolation.
In fact, no matter what production process is adopted, charcoal is the product of gas and liquid in wood being heated and volatilized. The remaining material is the solid combustible part of wood, so it can only be heated up without smoking when burning.
Extended data
Charcoal is mainly divided into white charcoal, black charcoal, activated charcoal and machine-made charcoal. White charcoal is mainly made from trees of FAGACEAE and Ulmaceae in hardwood. Its advantages are long burning time, smokeless and pollution-free, but it is easy to explode when wet and expensive. Black charcoal is mainly soft hardwood firewood. Its advantage is that it is easy to ignite, but its disadvantage is that it is easy to explode, not flame-resistant and has smoke when burning.
Activated carbon can be said to be the deep processing of charcoal, and there are many kinds. According to the different raw materials, it can be divided into plant raw material charcoal, coal-based charcoal, petroleum charcoal, bone charcoal and so on. Activated carbon has developed pore structure, large total surface area and adsorption capacity, is insoluble in water and other solvents, and has physical and chemical stability.
Machine-made charcoal takes sawdust as raw material, which is mainly shaped at high temperature and high pressure, and then sent to carbonization furnace for carbonization. The whole production process does not need to add any additives, which is relatively environmentally friendly. Its main characteristics are long burning time, high calorific value, smoke-free and environmental protection, so it is favored by major barbecue shops.
