The Chinese New Year's Day for the "ghost festival", it is the legend of the story is?
Midwinter Festival is commonly known as the Ghost Festival, where we call the half of the seventh month, because every year on the fifteenth day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, well, anyway, is not a good holiday, today happens to be the Ghost Festival.
The Chinese New Year's Day is a Taoist festival. Every year, the first month of the lunar calendar is the first yuan festival, is the birthday of the heavenly officials, the significance of the first yuan festival is for the earth to pray for blessings; the seventh month of the lunar calendar 15 is the middle yuan festival, is the earth official's birthday, the significance is for the earth to atone for the sins of the people; the tenth lunar month 15 is the next yuan festival, is the water official's birthday, the significance is for the earth to solve the problem. Tian Guan, Di Guan and Shui Guan are collectively known as the Three Great Emperors, also known as Sanyuan.
Colloquial saying: half of July, ghosts run amok. Legend has it that the netherworld will release the ghosts to the earth on this day of the Mid-Yuan Festival, i.e.: the earth opens the ban, the ghosts celebrate the New Year. Therefore, the earth on this day not only to worship the earth officials and ancestors, but also to give some food to the lonely ghosts, so it is said: Ghost Festival.
Buddhism calls the half of July the Bon Festival, the Sanskrit Bon is to save the meaning of the upside down, the Bon is a kind of bamboo made of containers, can be filled with paper money or offerings for sacrifice.
The Bon Festival originated from the story of how Meilian saved his mother. The mother of a Buddhist disciple, Meilian, did not believe in Buddhism, and after her death, she was sent to the hell of Abi. Meilian saw with his heavenly eyes that his mother was being bullied by a group of hungry ghosts in the hell of hell, and suffered a lot, so he cast a spell to bring food to his mother, but the food was about to reach her mouth when it turned into burning charcoal, so his mother naturally could not eat it. Meilian was so anxious that he went to the Buddha, who said: on the 15th day of the 7th month, when the monks' summer resting place is over, prepare the five flavors and fruits and offer them to the great virtues of the ten directions. The mother of Meguron was indeed free from the hungry ghosts.
Then it became a ritual for Buddhist disciples to hold on July 15 every year, and the "Jingchu Youshi Ji" recorded that on July 15, monks, nuns, Taoists and laypeople all camped out in pots for the Buddhas. Later, the Bon Festival became a Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian **** with the festival.
