Biography of Zhu Liankui
Zhu Liankui (1854-1922?), known by his stage name Ching Ling Foo, was a native of Yangliuqing, Tianjin, and was the earliest Chinese magician to demonstrate traditional Chinese magic in the Western world. In 1898, Zhu Liankui performed for the first time in the United States, claiming that he was "a magician who performed for the Empress Dowager Cixi", and soon became popular all over the world with his traditional Chinese magic tricks in oriental style. Soon, he became popular all over the United States with his oriental style of traditional Chinese magic. Audiences who have seen the movie "Deadly Magic" are mostly impressed by the Chinese magician "Ching Ling Foo" who pretends to be crippled and sacrifices himself to create a large goldfish bowl. In fact, although the plot of the script is fictional, there is such a person in history, he is the famous Chinese magician Zhu Liankui, who became famous in the United States and Europe in the late Qing Dynasty. Zhu Liankui was one of the few Chinese to appear in the Linking Ring, the official publication of the International Society of Magicians (I.B.M.).
