What is used as a light sensitive material in wet plate photography

Gelatin.

Gelatin is a naturally occurring protein compound with good light-sensitive properties. During wet plate photography, the photographer coats the gelatin on a glass or metal plate, where the photoelectric effect and chemical reaction is realized through the interaction of light passing through the gelatin layer and the silver halide particles. The image information formed by the light can then be recorded by the gelatin and converted into a visible image in the subsequent development and fixation process. Gelatin as a light-sensitive material in wet plate photography has high resolution and sensitivity, and is able to capture images with rich details and provide more creative opportunities for photographers.
