The difference between ATM network and traditional network
2. What is ATM? (To put it bluntly, it is a data transmission technology)
Asynchronous transmission mode. The characteristic of asynchronous transmission mode is that the transmission, multiplexing and exchange of information are based on cells. Asynchronous means that cells belonging to the same user do not necessarily appear periodically at fixed time intervals. ATM cell is a fixed-length packet with 53 bytes, which is divided into two parts. The first 5 bytes are the header, which mainly completes the addressing function; The last 48 bytes are information segments used to load information from different users and services. ATM switching refers to transferring the ATM cells on the incoming line to the corresponding outgoing line according to the VPI (Virtual Path Identifier) and VCI (Virtual Path Identifier) on its header, thus completing the purpose of switching transmission. Because ATM technology simplifies the switching process, eliminates unnecessary data verification and adopts a fixed cell format that is easy to handle, the switching rate of ATM is much higher than that of traditional data networks, such as x.25, DDN and Frame Relay. In addition, different services are given different "privileges", for example, the real-time privilege of voice is the highest, the correctness privilege of general data file transmission is the highest, and the network allocates different network resources to different services.
3. What is 3? IP? (IP network is a network using IP transport protocol)
IP is the abbreviation of English Internet Protocol, which means "protocol for interconnection between networks", that is, a protocol designed for computer networks to communicate with each other. In the internet, it is a set of rules that can make all computer networks connected with the internet communicate with each other, and stipulates the rules that computers should abide by when communicating on the internet. As long as it conforms to the IP protocol, any computer system produced by any manufacturer can be interconnected with the Internet. It is precisely because of the IP protocol that the Internet has rapidly developed into the largest and most open computer communication network in the world. Therefore, IP protocol can also be called "Internet protocol".
