One of the three major festivals in Kyoto, Japan, the classic and elegant Kyoto Sunflower Festival?
On May 15 every year, the "Kwai Festival" will be held at the Xia Ya Shrine in Izumikawa-CHO, Shizuoka-ku, Kyoto, and at the Shanghemao Shrine in Shanghemaoton Mountain in the north area. Sunflower Festival is one of the three famous festivals in Kyoto. This is a classical and elegant festival. During the event, Kyoto reappeared the luxurious queue of 1000 years ago, which made people feel like going back to the past.
During the Kwai Festival, 500 people wore gorgeous ancient costumes and paraded through the main streets of Kyoto. It is precisely because the parade crowd and even the clothes of cattle and horses are decorated with sunflower leaves that this festival is called "Sunflower Festival".
Such a grand parade reappeared the scene of the official team delivering imperial edicts and offerings to Xia Ya and Shanghemao shrines. The highest rank in the team is Jin Jian, the messenger on horseback, followed by offerings.
The most striking thing in the procession is the women's queue, in which the heroine is selected from unmarried women living in the capital. The final winner can be described as radiant, but it is really tiring, because as the heroine, she will wear the ancient court dress "Twelve Orders", that is, 12 kimono one by one, and the weight of the clothes alone will reach 30 kilograms.
In Japanese classical literature, the so-called "sacrifice" actually refers to "sunflower sacrifice". The parade faithfully inheriting the ancient tradition on the "Kwai Festival" makes people feel as if they have returned to the 10 century. The parade started from the Kyoto Palace (Kyoto Palace in Kyoto's Shangjing District), where the Emperor worked and lived, until around 1869, 130, passed the Xia Ya Shrine, and arrived at Shanghemao Shrine around 1530. After arriving at the shrine, live performances such as dancing and galloping on horseback will begin.
