Population of Uganda
The population of Uganda is 44.3 million.
According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, the population of Uganda as a whole was about 44.3 million in 2021, with the labor force accounting for about 43% of the total population (2017 data). The population is more densely populated around the capital city of Kampala and in the southwest, while the population in the northeast is relatively spread out. Uganda is a multi-ethnic country.
By language, there are four major ethnic groups: the Bantu, the Nilotic, the Nilotic-Semitic, and the Sudanese. Each ethnic group consists of a number of nationalities. The Bantu ethnic group makes up more than 2/3 of the total population and includes 20 ethnic groups such as Baganda (18% of the total population), Banyankole (16% of the total population), Bakiga and Basoga. The Nilotic group includes five ethnic groups such as the Rangi and Acholi. The Nilotic-Semitic group includes seven ethnic groups such as Iteso, Karamojong, and others. The Sudanese group includes four ethnic groups such as Lugbara, Madi and others.
Specialties of Uganda
The main meal is a banana rice dish called "Matoki". "Matoki" is made from an unsweetened variety of banana, peeled and mashed, steamed and mixed with red bean juice, peanut sauce, braised chicken and beef curry. People who have eaten "Matoki", generally praise this is "the world's most delicious rice", so it has become the main dish of the Ugandan national feast.
Uganda's "national drink" is a mixture of bananas and sorghum flour fermented brew, sweet and mellow.
