Dance at the party

Generally speaking, Yue dance originated from the ancient geisha music in China, but the ancient geisha music and dance in China is very different from the dance we saw at the banquet, but there are similarities in some elements. Season music dance is the opposite concept to elegant music dance, which originated from slave society and has declined and revived several times. There are several key elements: long sleeves, musical instruments, singing, sobbing ... these can still be seen in some pottery and murals, such as flying instruments in Dunhuang murals.

The dance in the banquet was marked by masks and dance movements, which did not exist in the geisha music in ancient China and was not recorded in the materials. Then why is it called geisha music? And I don't know if you have noticed that there are many Japanese elements in this dance, and there are two Japanese actors in the scene of the last dance in Tsing Yi. The historical background of The Night Banquet is the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, which is a period of long-term war in China and is bound to face great ethnic integration. Japanese, Korean and Indian dances are all combined with the dances of the Central Plains, so I think this dance originated in ancient China and then spread to Japan, adding many dance elements that we China people are not familiar with. This dance style disappeared in China, but it survived in Japan. Xiaogang Feng quotes it now, probably because he wants to reproduce history, and the other is to find a sense of strangeness, which is necessary in movies. Compared with this new dance style, the audience will definitely not like watching Ying Ge Yanwu, who is good at dancing with long sleeves.

In fact, there is absolutely no need to make an absolute textual research on its origin. After all, the banquet is just a commercial film, not a documentary during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. Perhaps what we suspect, Xiaogang Feng may not fully understand. He just expressed his feelings through such a sad dance.

In a word, this is a geisha dance, which can't be wrong, but I can't guarantee how many elements of China remain in this geisha dance. I didn't consult more information, just my personal opinion.
