Characteristics of tuberculosis
A: Tuberculosis can harm humans and many animals. About 50 species of mammals and 25 species of birds can be infected with this disease. Susceptibility varies with animal species and individuals; Cattle are the most susceptible among domestic animals, especially cows, followed by cattle, yaks and buffaloes. Pigs and poultry are also susceptible, and sheep are rarely infected with this disease. Tuberculosis can occur all year round, and it is usually sporadic. The incubation period is usually 3 ~ 6 weeks, and some can be as long as months or years.
Tuberculosis in humans and animals is mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract and partly through the digestive tract. Sick livestock and poultry, especially open infected animals, are the main sources of infection, and their sputum, feces and urine, milk and reproductive tract secretions can all carry bacteria. Susceptible animals can be infected with the disease through respiratory tract and digestive tract when they are exposed to the above pollutants.
