How accurate are storm forecasts
Heavy rainfall forecasting is a worldwide problem. From the point of view of predictability, heavy rain as a mesoscale system, the horizontal spatial scale is very small. The overall predictability of weather systems at this scale is very low. Professor Wen Zhiping of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Sun Yat-sen University said that even in developed countries such as the United States, the accuracy of rainstorm forecasting is only 22% to 23%, while in China, the average accuracy is only 15% to 20%.
