Dragon Boat Festival dumplings how to do handmade

Duanwu Festival is a traditional Chinese festival, eating zongzi is one of the important customs of Dragon Boat Festival. Here is how to make zongzi by hand:

Materials:

Sticky rice

Zongzi leaves (or reed or bamboo leaves)

Fillings such as red dates, bean paste and meat filling

Rope or palm fiber

Steps:

Soak the sticky rice in clean water, which needs to be done for about 4-6 hours until the rice becomes soft.

Prepare the leaves for the rice dumplings, clean the leaves and soften them with hot water.

Take a rice dumpling leaf, fold it into a small cone and pinch the bottom with your fingers to form a funnel shape.

Put some soaked glutinous rice inside the rice dumpling leaf and add appropriate fillings, such as red dates, bean paste or meat filling.

Add more glutinous rice so that the fillings are completely covered and wrap the rice dumpling leaves tightly.

Tie the rice dumplings tightly with string or brown thread to make sure they don't fall apart.

Place the rice dumplings in a steamer and steam for 2-3 hours until the glutinous rice is fully cooked.

Remove the dumplings and allow them to cool before serving.
