The Three Programs of Chen Heqin's Theory of Living Education are Briefly Described

The three major programs of Chen Heqin's theory of living education are briefly described as follows:

(1) Purpose Theory of Living Education

Chen Heqin believes that "the purpose of living education is to be a human being, to be a Chinese person, and to be a modern Chinese." Among them, "being human" is the most general purpose of "living education". He took teaching people to be human beings as the fundamental purpose of education, and put it in the first place of all educational work, emphasizing that "teach from childhood, teach from childhood." Chen Heqin advocated the cultivation of all-round quality of human beings, and demanded that "modern Chinese" should have the following conditions: to have a sound body; to have the ability to build; to have the ability to create; to have a sense of cooperation; and to have the spirit of service.

(2) Curriculum theory of "living education"

Chen Heqin regarded the old education as "dead education", and the old school as "the prison of knowledge", which could only produce one batch of "dead education" after another. The old school is a "prison of knowledge", which can only produce a batch of "nerds". Chen Heqin sharply attacked the shortcomings of traditional education, which emphasized only written knowledge, and proposed that children should be "encouraged to discover their own world. Therefore, Chen Heqin advocated that nature and society should be used as "living teaching materials" and that "we should abandon the erroneous notion that 'books are all-powerful' in the past, and explore and study the living and direct 'treasure trove of knowledge'". ." That is to say, it is believed that the curriculum should be opened in the context of nature, society, children's lives and the content of school education.

(C) "live education" methodology

Chen Heqin sharply criticized the traditional education teaching methods "is not the principle of education, is divided, is against the children's life, is against children's psychology". Advocated learning the United States Dewey "teaching in doing" experience, the "do" in the first place. Of course, Chen Heqin said "do", not limited to hands do, but we often say "practice".

So Chen Heqin believes that the methodology of "living education" is: "Doing in doing, doing in learning, and seeking progress in doing." And the teaching process of "living education" is divided into four steps: experimental observation-reading and reference-publishing and creation-criticism and discussion. Emphasis is placed on the organization of school activities according to the needs of children's lives and children's interests in learning.
