What is Russian salad meat?
Russian salad meat is raw meat, Russians usually eat cured meat that is raw, because in their view, no matter what meat, cured is cooked, is edible. In Russia it is called "Olivier salad" (Russian: салатОливье, salatOlivie), named after the Belgian chef Lucien Olivier, who invented the dish.
Russian salad is a dish made with raw meat, yellow tomatoes, purple kale, lettuce, shredded carrots, and raisins as the main ingredient, and tomato salsa, manes, salt, pepper, and sugar as the supplementary ingredients. On New Year's Day Russian salad is usually served as an appetizer at a dinner party along with ouzo and champagne. There is also a variant called "capital salad", the difference is usually the absence of carrots.
