Allusion to the baby's full moon shaving

The full moon is a very important day for newborns. This is the first day that a newborn can come out of the house and formally contact with the outside world, so in the past, the Chinese attached great importance to this day, generally no matter how rich or poor, they have to hold a certain scale of celebration, especially when the first born boy, the celebration will be more grand.

On this day, the newborn has several very important rituals to be carried out, the most important two, one is called "wash the child", one is called "drop fetal hair", after these two procedures, the newborn removed the dirt, you can be clean and fresh and outsiders! The newborn will be able to meet with outsiders in a clean and fresh manner after these two procedures.

"Fetal hair", mainly in the full moon, so also commonly known as "full moon shaving". Before the head shaving ceremony, it is necessary to check the calendar to find an auspicious time. The head shaving ceremony is usually hosted by the newborn's grandmother's family, the grandmother's family presents gifts, sets up the hall, and invites all the blessed people (parents, spouses, and children) to hold the baby and sit in the center of the hall, where the head shaver shaves off the newborn's fetal hair.

When shaving the fetal hair, it is not possible to shave the fetal hair on the top of the head. The top of the head is commonly known as the "top of the hu xie" or "heavenly soul cover", where the fluctuation of the ups and downs make people feel that it may be the place where the soul goes in and out of the house, and therefore it should be avoided with extra care. When a newborn shaves its head, all the hair around it can be shaved, but only the hair here must be preserved. When the hair grows long, it is combed into a pigtail, and a red headband is tied to the end of the pigtail as a warning.

The shaved fetal hair should not be thrown away. Some places will shave down the hair into a ball, in the grandmother's family sent by the gold or silver wire in the loop, hanging in front of the bed; some places by the newborn's mother or grandmother with red paper will be wrapped in hair, treasured. It is said that fetal hair is very important to the newborn, and once lost, it will make the newborn sick or die prematurely.

Of course, China's vast territory, all over the world, the customs of various ethnic groups are not quite the same. Some places are not full moon shaving, like the Guangdong Chaozhou people are twelve days after the birth of the child shaving, under the razor before, but also with an egg, in the hair a few turns, and then start shaving. That egg is supposed to be fed to the child and is usually eaten by the parents instead.

There are also some places where a newborn's fetal hair can't be shaved until the 100th day. Or you need to check the calendar to see which day is auspicious before you can shave your baby's hair. And there are a few days is absolutely can not shave, such as avoiding Ding fire day five day shaving fetal hair, or the child will be black; avoid 30 days shaving fetal hair, or the child will die early, and so on.
