1. The Way of Governance of Emperor Emperor Tang Taizong (I)
In order for you to better inherit the foundation of Tang Dynasty and create a peaceful and prosperous era, as a generation of Mingjun, I traced the achievements of the previous kings, and read the history books, and gathered them into a book of the main points of governance as an admonition to you.
[Commentary]Tang Taizong said in the preface: "Since the non-Keming Ketzhe, Yunwu Yunwen, the emperor's favor life, the number in the groove, and can indiscriminately hold the spirit of the figure Chanting the divine weapon? It is Cui Gui recommended Tang Yao's virtue, Yuan Gui Xie Xia Yu's success; Dan word presents good fortune, Zhou opened eight hundred of the throne; Su Ling table Rui, Han Qi heavy world of the foundation. From this point of view, the emperor's career, not to be able to compete with the person carry on. It can be seen, since ancient times, the emperor that is the divine right of kings, the king of the country by heaven, to prove that they are a virtuous and wise king, traditional Chinese culture contains theism and the theory of fate.
The emperor was high above the nine heavens and still called himself the son of heaven with the dignity of the Nine and Five, and was subject to the jurisdiction and constraints of the will of heaven, and from time to time he had to issue edicts to sin against himself and repent to heaven. When the Zhou Dynasty emerged, a red bird with the mouth of the Dan Book flew to Mount Qishan, to the King of Wen declared the fate of heaven. At the beginning of the reign of King Wu of Zhou, he asked the veteran minister Shi Shangfu for advice on how to rule the country, and Shangfu recounted the words of Danshu, saying: if diligence and respect for heaven prevail over laxity, the cause will prosper; if neglect of duty prevails over respect for duty, the cause will decline; if justice in government prevails over selfishness, the cause will go smoothly; if selfishness prevails over justice, the cause will be thwarted. As long as we work on the words "respect" and "justice", this is the so-called simple way of governance that is easy to save, easy to do, and can be emulated by our children and grandchildren for generations to come. Tang Taizong said that his own government "fear and trembling, if the deep and the Royal rotten, day by day prudent, think good start and make the end", can be said to know this way.
Tang Taizong benevolence and love for the people, line of kings, holding the middle ground, seeking balance, Bo Shi in the people and help the people, the people can therefore abide by the law, live in peace and work in contentment, the king and the people **** to enjoy the peace and prosperity. Emperor Taizong's fame spreads far and wide, the industry will last for generations to come, and the great Tang Dynasty will be remembered for generations to come.
During the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, Shang Yang of Qin presided over the change of law with the support of Duke Xiaodong of Qin. At the time of frequent wars, people were in fear, in order to establish credibility and promote reform, Shang Yang ordered the capital outside the south gate to set up a three-foot-long wood, and made a public promise: whoever can move this wood to the north gate, a reward of ten taels. The onlookers didn't believe that such an easy task could result in such a high reward, and no one was willing to give it a try. As a result, Shang Yang raised the reward to 50 taels. Finally, someone stood up and carried the wood to the north gate. Shang Yang immediately rewarded him with 50 gold. Shang Yang's action built up his credibility in the hearts of the people, and his next change of law was soon popularized in Qin. The new law enabled Qin to grow strong and eventually unify China.
Also in the same place where Shang Yang "set up a tree for trust", 400 years earlier, there was a ludicrous farce called "Beacon Fire Playing with the Vassals".
King Yu of Zhou had a favorite concubine named Baosi, in order to win her a smile, King Yu of Zhou ordered in the capital city near more than 20 beacon on the fire - beacon is the border alarm signal, only in the invasion of foreign enemies need to call the vassals to the rescue of the time can be lit. When the lords saw the beacon fire, they rushed to the place with their soldiers and generals, and realized that it was the king's trick to win his wife's smile, and then left angrily. When Baosi saw that the lords were at a loss as to what to do, she finally smiled happily. Five years later, Youyi and Taijon attacked the Zhou, and King Yu's beacons were lit again before the lords arrived - no one wanted to be fooled a second time. As a result, King You was forced to kill himself and Baosi was captured.
One of them was a man of faith, a man of promise; the other was a man of faithlessness, a man who played the game of "crying wolf". As a result, the former changed the law successfully, the country strong power strong; the latter took the humiliation, the death of the country. It is clear that "faith" plays a very important role in the rise and fall of a nation.
There was a man named Jibu at the end of the Qin Dynasty, who was always a man of his word and had a very high reputation, and many people established a strong friendship with him. At that time, there was even this proverb circulating: "It is better to get a hundred pounds of gold than to get a promise from Ji Bu." (This is the origin of the idiom "a promise is worth a thousand pounds.") Later, he offended Liu Bang, the Gaozu of Han Dynasty, and was offered a reward for his capture. As a result, his old friends were not only not fooled by the reward, but also risked the danger of exterminating their nine clans to protect him, humoring him and saving him from disaster. If a person is honest and trustworthy, he will naturally get a lot of help and gain the respect and friendship of everyone. On the other hand, if one is greedy for a moment's comfort or a small advantage and breaks faith with his friends, on the surface, he gets a "favor". But for this favor he ruins his reputation, which is much more important than material things. Therefore, the loss of trust in friends, is tantamount to losing the watermelon to pick up sesame seeds, the loss is not worth it.
In the early years, Nepal's southern Himalayas were rarely visited by foreigners. Later, many Japanese traveled here for sightseeing, which is said to have originated from the honesty of a teenager.
One day, several Japanese photographers asked a local teenager to buy beer, for which the teenager ran for more than three hours.
The next day, the boy volunteered to buy beer for them again. This time the photographers paid him a lot of money, but the teenager didn't return until the afternoon of the third day. So the photographers talked and thought that the teenager had cheated them out of their money. On the third night, however, the teenager knocked on the photographers' door. It turned out that he had purchased only four bottles of beer in one place, so he went over a mountain and crossed a river to purchase another six bottles, and when he returned, he broke three bottles. He cried and took the broken pieces of glass, handed back the change to the photographer, and everyone there was moved. Many foreigners were y moved by this story. Later, more and more tourists came here.
In New York's Riverside Park stands the Civil War Memorial, where many visitors come to pay their respects every year. Eighteen-term President of the United States, the Civil War as commander-in-chief of the Northern Army General Grant's mausoleum, located in the northern part of the park. Mausoleum tall and majestic, solemn and simple. Behind the mausoleum is a large turquoise lawn that stretches all the way to the border of the park and the edge of the steep cliffs.
Behind General Grant's mausoleum, closer to the edge of the cliff, there was another mausoleum for a small child. It was a very small, very ordinary tomb, and in any other place you might have overlooked it. It had, like the vast majority of American mausoleums, only a small headstone. On the headstone and on a wooden plaque next to it is a touching story about honesty:
The story took place more than two hundred years ago, in 1797. In that year, the young owner of this land was only five years old when he fell to his death from the cliffs here. His father, heartbroken, buried him here and built this tiny mausoleum in his honor. A few years later, the family declined and the old owner had to transfer this land. Out of love for his son, he made a peculiar request to the future owner of the land; he asked the new owner to keep the child's mausoleum as part of the land and never destroy it. The new owner agreed and put this condition in the deed. In this way, the child's mausoleum was preserved.
A hundred years passed. This land has been sold many times, and the name of the child has long been forgotten, but the child's mausoleum is still there, and it has been preserved in its entirety, according to one deed of sale after another. By 1897, this windswept site was selected for the General Grant Mausoleum. The government became the owner of the land, and the tomb of the unnamed child, intact in government hands, became a neighbor to General Grant's mausoleum. The tomb of a great history maker, and the tomb of a nameless child adjacent to the tomb, may be a unique spectacle in the world.
Another hundred years later, in 1997, then-New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani came here to honor General Grant. At that time, it happened to be the one hundredth anniversary of the establishment of General Grant's mausoleum, but also the bicentennial of the child's death, Mayor Giuliani personally wrote this moving story and carved it on a wooden plaque and stood it next to the mausoleum of the unknown child, so that this story about honesty and integrity will continue to be passed down from generation to generation. ......
2, [story II]
A soldier, very bad at long-distance running, so soon fell far behind in a troop cross-country race, running alone. After turning a few corners, he came upon a fork in the road, one road, marked for officers to run on; the other, marked for enlisted men to run on trails. He paused for a moment, and although he was displeased that being an officer was even a bargain for cross-country, he still ran toward the enlisted man's trail. He didn't realize that when he reached the finish line half an hour later, he was in first place. He felt unenviable that he had never placed, not to mention that he had never even run in the top 50. But the officer who presided over the race smiled and congratulated him on his victory.
After a few hours, a large group of people arrived, exhausted from running, and wondered when they saw that he had won. But suddenly everyone woke up to how important it was to be honest and trustworthy at the fork in the road.
3. [Story 3]
The story of Zeng Sen who killed a pig. Zeng Sen, a famous thinker and coward in the late Spring and Autumn period of the State of Lu, was one of the seventy-two sages among the disciples of Confucius. He was a learned man, and paid great attention to cultivating his moral character. Once, his wife had to go to the marketplace to do business, and his young child clamored to go. Zeng Sen's wife didn't want to take the child there, so she said to him, "You play well at home, and when mom comes back, she will kill the family pig and cook meat for you to eat." The child was very happy to hear this and stopped clamoring to go to the market. This was just a joke to coax the child, and afterward, Zeng Sen's wife forgot about it. Unexpectedly, Zeng Sen really killed a pig in the house. When his wife saw that Zeng Sen killed the pig, she said, "I said that I would kill the pig and cook meat for the child when he came back from the market in order to let him wait at home without fear. Zeng Sen said, "A child cannot be deceived. A child is too young to understand the world, and has only to learn from the ways of others, especially using his parents as an example of how to live. Today you deceive the child and taint his mind, tomorrow the child will deceive you and others; today you are untrustworthy in front of the child, tomorrow the child will no longer trust you, you see how great the harm is."
