History of the Spanish ****production party
In 1993, the United Left received 9% of the public vote, peaking at 11% in 1996, and declining in influence from 1999 onwards, receiving less than 5% of the vote in 2000. Traditionally, the United Left did not have a branch in Catalonia, but was a strategic partner of the Catalan Initiative (IC, now ICV, Catalan Green Initiative). The IC later broke its partnership with the United Left and then, thanks to the efforts of the Catalan left, reorganized itself into the Alliance of the Other Left (EUiA), which became the regional branch of the Alliance of the Left in Catalonia.
In 2008, EUiA formed an electoral alliance with the Catalan Green Initiative (ICV), which hit rock bottom that year, but was finally halted in the 2011 Spanish regional elections, when it won 6.33% of the vote. In the 2011 parliamentary elections, it won 6.9% of the vote and 11 seats in the Chamber of Deputies.
