Introduction of Smoke Box Dance

Shiping Yi Smoke Box Dance, also known as "jumping string", "monopoly", etc., is a mass folk dance of Yunnan Yi tribe Nisupu. Circulating in the south of Yunnan Province in old, Shiping, Jianshui, Mengzi, Kaiyuan, Tonghai, Yuanjiang and other places in the Yi settlement, Yuanming period tends to mature, the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period to reach its heyday. During the dance, each person takes a bamboo or cottonwood locust cigarette box in each hand and dances. The Yi people also call the smoke box dance "jumping string", "jumping music", "jumping three-step string" and so on. The Yi people are extremely fond of the smoke box dance, no matter children and old people love to dance. People say, "When you hear the four strings, your feet will itch."
