What selective medium is used to separate bacteria and fungi?
The separation of unknown bacteria is generally difficult to say because the bacteria are not sure which one, and some bacteria have different requirements for metabolic conditions and nutritional conditions. If it is a clinical specimen, in order to isolate the target bacteria as much as possible, it is necessary to use high-nutrient media (including fungi) such as blood plate or chocolate plate. If anaerobic infection is suspected, we need to provide its anaerobic environment. If it is suspected to be a special bacterium, such as mycobacterium tuberculosis, we need to provide a special culture medium to cultivate it.
In addition, sometimes the culture project is downward, such as detecting whether a batch of food contains Salmonella, then this time we should use the selective culture medium of this bacteria.
