What is the meaning of lexical item
Lexical items are explained as follows:
Lexical items are ideas that refer to and express objects by revealing their peculiar properties. Lexical items in logic are the basic elements that constitute propositions. In traditional logic, lexical items are the elements constituting straightforward propositions, which mainly refer to the main and predicate items in straightforward propositions; whereas in modern predicate logic, lexical items are decomposed into individual and predicate terms, quantifiers and conjunctions, and so on. There is a big difference in the understanding of lexical items between traditional and modern logic.
The Aristotelian traditional logic is mainly manifested in the logic of lexical items, therefore, accurately recognizing and grasping lexical items is the first prerequisite for accurately grasping traditional logic. According to traditional logic, lexical items are ideas that refer to and express objects. The objects referred to and expressed by lexical items can be divided into two main categories: objects that exist objectively, and objects that are subjectively imagined, guessed, or fictionalized.
Objective objects are also generally divided into two categories: one is the objective existence of entities, such as a specific person, a specific object, and so on; the other is the attributes that these entities have. Attributes are further divided into two types, one is the nature of the entity, such as the shape of the entity: the color of the entity, and so on.
The other property is the relationship between the entities, such as one entity is greater than another entity "greater than" relationship. In short, everything that exists objectively, and the various properties of these things are the object of lexical items.
Not only the objectively existing objects, people's subjective imagination, speculation or fictional objects are also the object of the lexical items. Subjective imaginary objects such as God, fairies, ghosts and monsters. Subjective speculation of objects such as aliens, Changbai Mountain monster, Shennongjia wild man. People fictional objects such as Jia Baoyu, Lin Daiyu, Linghu Chong, etc.
A lexical item is something in the form of a thought. In our thoughts objects cannot exist in their original form, but are expressed as the sum of various attributes. Therefore we grasp objects by grasping their properties. And the lexical item is able to refer to the object of expression because it reveals the peculiar properties of the object,
The properties of the object are distinguished between peculiar and non-exceptional properties. The so-called unique properties are those properties that are unique to an object and therefore distinguish it from other objects; non-specific properties are those properties that are owned by the object, but are not distinctive.
