Born in Guangdong Province, China. Between the late 1970s and 1980s, he was a popular kung fu movie star of Shaw Brothers Film Company. Liu Ka Fai is only the godson of Lau Cham and is not related to Lau Cham's two sons, Lau Ka Leung and Lau Ka Wing. Since Lau Cham was a disciple of the famous Hung Gar master Lam Sai Wing (who studied under Wong Fei Hung), Lau Ka Fai received rigorous training in the orthodox martial arts since he was a child, laying the foundation for his later career as a martial arts star.
