Water pump, what is single suction and what is double suction?

Single suction pump:

Inhale horizontally and axially and exhale radially upwards. The pump is a suspended structure, so it can exit the rotor parts for maintenance without disassembling the inlet and outlet pipes. The pump is connected with the motor through ordinary elastic coupling or extended elastic coupling, and the shaft seal of the pump is sealed with soft packing. The bearing is a single row radial ball bearing, which is lubricated by lubricating oil. Seen from the motor end, the pump rotates clockwise.

Double suction pump:

As an important form of centrifugal pump, it has been widely used in engineering because of its high lift and large flow. The impeller of this pump is actually composed of two back-to-back impellers, and the water flowing out of the impellers is merged into a volute. Double suction pump has the following characteristics: it is equivalent to two single suction impellers with the same diameter working at the same time, and the flow rate can be doubled under the same impeller diameter; The horizontal opening of the pump shell is convenient for inspection and maintenance. At the same time, the inlet and outlet of the double-suction pump are in the same direction and perpendicular to the pump shaft, which is beneficial to the arrangement and installation of the pump and the inlet and outlet pipes. The impeller of double-suction pump has symmetrical structure, no axial force and stable operation.

The double-suction pump has two suction chambers, and the suction inlet and water inlet of the pump are vertically below the shaft. The most important thing is the water inlet direction of the impeller. The advantage of double-suction pump is that at the same speed and flow rate, the pump is not prone to cavitation because of reducing the inlet flow rate. ?
