The Alpine Skiing World Championships were originally scheduled to be held in February 2021 in the northern Italian city of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Considering the uncertainty caused by the spread of the new Crown Pneumonia outbreak, and to avoid the event being canceled or shortened, Italy formally submitted to the FIS on May 25 a request to postpone the event to the month following the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
