Who created the Wing Chun Wooden Man Pile?
The one who invented the Wooden Pile was actually Qi Jiguang, a famous anti-Japanese general and national hero of the Ming Dynasty, who summarized his experience in the battlefield and invented the Wooden Pile for the purpose of training his soldiers in hand-to-hand combat.
At the same time, he not only invented the wooden dummy, but also improved the traditional big sword.
Thus, the earliest form of the wooden dummy was the "single-handed" training in traditional military camps.
It makes sense that Bruce Lee's protégé in Ip Man 4 was going to introduce the wooden dummy into military camps as a training program.
In fact, later on, in addition to Wing Chun, there were also a few branches in Bajiquan and Taijiquan that practiced Wooden Pile; it is just that relatively speaking, Wing Chun disciples maximized and utilized Wooden Pile training.
Nowadays, the traditional wooden stake training method is still retained among some of the Chi Kung Fu heirs in the private sector.
