What does soy sauce mean?

Soy sauce is a Chinese network language originated from Chinese mainland, which originally meant to go to the store to buy soy sauce.

Later, two usages were derived: in a traditional sense, "all children of someone can cook soy sauce", which means that children are old enough to help with housework, and parents are not young. The other is network language, which means people don't care about public topics, and it means "it's none of my business" or "I can't comment on this matter", which is equivalent to "passers-by".

The origin of nouns

It was circulated on the Internet that in 2008, Liao, a reporter from Guangzhou TV Station, interviewed citizens randomly on the street. "What do you think of Yanzhaomen?" A male interviewee calmly replied: "It's none of my business, I'm going out to buy soy sauce ..." This sentence spread quickly on the Internet, and the pictures were also modified by netizens with Photoshop;

"Soy sauce man" has become the object of ridicule by the majority of netizens, and "soy sauce" has quickly become a buzzword on many forums, resulting in online vocabulary such as "soy sauce clan". However, the reporter said that the interviewer did not say "I came out to buy soy sauce" and the topic of the interview had nothing to do with Yanzhaomen.

Pay attention to use

This is a vocabulary used in network communication, which can't be used in formal written language and daily communication because people who don't participate in internet activities don't understand it. Generally speaking, the contexts used for teasing, especially BBS and forums, have the highest frequency.
