How to Appreciate Orchids

The standard of orchid appreciation varies depending on the region or personal preference. Generally speaking, orchid artists consider orchids to be good as long as they have fragrance when they bloom, which is called taking their fragrance. In some regions, the orchid artists only love the traditional famous orchids, and they think that only the famous old species can be considered as good orchids, which is called taking their names. In some regions, no matter how the petal type and leaf type are, the orchid artists think that only those with a plain heart are good orchids, so they take the plain heart. In some regions, as long as the color of the flower is peculiar and rich, it can be called a good orchid, which is called taking its colorfulness. In some regions, the orchid artisans do not pay much attention to the petal type of the flowers, but favor the length, width, curvature and contrast of the short species or leaves, and pay special attention to the color of the leaves, which is said to take its oddity. In some areas, the orchid artisans emphasize on the discovery of native species and downhill new products, which is called taking their newness. Some orchids have crystalline and translucent leaves, and they become crystal orchids which are sought after by people. So what kind of orchid can be called a good orchid? In my opinion, evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of orchids is mainly based on color, type, odd, fragrance, vegetarian, rhyme six words in order, if one or two of them, they are all desirable.

"Color" refers to the bright and beautiful color of flowers. For an orchid, the greater the contrast between flower color and leaf color, the higher the ornamental value, so "color" is the first appreciation standard.

"Type" generally refers to the traditional appreciation standard of flowers, plum type petal, plum petal, lotus type petal, lotus petal, lotus-shaped daffodil petal, plum type daffodil petal, willow leaf petal, and articles on the theory of such petal types have been commonplace.

In addition, the linear petals of orchids, the butterfly-shaped petals and butterfly-shaped petals of spring orchids and four-season orchids should also be included in the appreciation standard of "type", so "type" is an important appreciation standard.

"Strange" refers to the number of petals, shape, color is unusual, peculiar, such as the lip, are valuable. The second is to refer to the leaf color odd, such as the leaf with yellow, white edges, or the entire leaf surface of yellow, white and green, etc., are also famous. The varieties with yellow and white edges on the leaf surface are called "Art Orchid" in overseas orchid circles. According to some experts, there is only one chance in ten thousand for the green leaves of orchids to have yellow and white edges. Therefore, all the leaves with other colors are valuable varieties. There are also spiral leaves, crepe leaves, toad leaves, short species of round-headed leaves, etc. Therefore, "odd" is another important standard for the appreciation of national orchids today.

"Fragrance" refers to the unique fragrance of national orchids. The fragrance of orchid is incomparable to that of any other plant, and it is one of the main reasons for human beings to love and keep orchids. The Japanese compare the fragrance of orchid to the eye of dragon, saying that orchid without fragrance is like dragon without eye. Our orchids are clear and fragrant. It can be seen that the fragrance of orchid is an essential standard of appreciation.

There are a lot of orchid factors, and "vegetarian" is ranked to the fifth place. This refers to the single color of the lip of the orchid (white, green, yellow tongue is more, and the whole red tongue is very rare). Vegetable orchids are valuable for three reasons: first, they can show the temperament of orchids, that is, people often say that orchids do not take no one to be fragrant, and they do not take favor with gaudiness. The color lip of the orchid will not show the purity of the orchid. Secondly, things are more precious than rare, because the plain orchid is much less than the colorful orchid. Among all kinds of orchids, Jianlan has the most plain orchids, followed by Chunlan, Cymbidium orchid again, and even more secondly by Mulan, and the plain orchids have the least plain orchids. Generally speaking, the value of the plain-lipped Jianlan is lower than that of the other plain-lipped ones. Thirdly, plain-lipped orchids also have odd characteristics.

"Rhyme" means that orchids have the overall rhythmic beauty of posture. It is also the aesthetic theory that coordination is beauty. If the aforementioned five standards of appreciation, can be concentrated, of course, is the highest grade, the value of the city, but because of the infinite changes in nature, it is often said that "no gold is enough", to be all is impossible. If you can have one or two of the five criteria, or two or three, also let the appreciators know enough. Therefore, it can also be said that the "rhyme" is a comprehensive appraisal and appreciation standards, although it will be subject to personal preference, cultural level, artistic training and many other factors, but the beauty of the objective existence.

All in all, for the evaluation and appreciation of national orchid varieties, there is an old Chinese saying, "Rarity is precious". There is a saying that "a thousand plums are chosen by ten thousand generations, and a lotus is sought nowhere". Therefore, the general lotus petal orchid is more respected than the plum petal, daffodil petal and other petal type orchids.
