How to understand "ethnicity" in design? (Or: how to recognize the cultural tradition in design?)

Answer: Design is culture, therefore, design has its own long history and tradition. From the point of view of modern art design, the traditional handmade art design can be said to be its tradition. This tradition includes two aspects. The former is the old form of art design, referring to specific design categories or traditional design forms; the latter mainly refers to the traditional spirit in the old form of art design. Cultural tradition is a great resource and valuable wealth for modern design. It is manifested in the following aspects:

(1) Cultural traditions, including art and design traditions, are the crystallization and embodiment of the nation's outstanding wisdom and talent. As a specific form of national spirit and internal elements, it is the internal power and bridge for the continuation and development of national culture, and is the fundamental basis for the development of national culture, the guarantee of cultural continuity. Tradition as the fundamental starting point and spiritual source of modern art and design, the traditional spirit of the nation is the main kernel of borrowing and drawing.

(2) Cultural traditions and the power of national cohesion lies in the basis of people's psychological identity, cultural identity, and the national spirit. Traditional Chinese designs such as national costumes, furniture and utensils are the cultural tokens of all Chinese people. It is the existence of these cultural tokens, the existence of cultural traditions, so that every Chinese people have a country and home to rely on, there is a cultural foundation, and thus there is also a great country's temperament.

(3) cultural tradition is the source of modern art and design of great art, from the form of design to the spiritual core, cultural traditions have given us endless inspiration and help. Modern design is first and foremost a design for contemporary Chinese, and the design of this culture is a design based on national culture.

(4) China is a multi-ethnic country, and our cultural tradition is also composed of and enriched by multi-ethnic cultural traditions. The traditions of various ethnic groups in the contemporary cultural exchanges more reflect the pluralism, vastness and depth of the Chinese national culture, but also to strengthen the exchange and integration between cultures and cultural traditions. This pluralistic cultural tradition gives us more nutrition, more choices, more reliance and more development orientation.
