On the whole, what's good about Dou Wei's music?
At present, he is still on the road of music. Although his music can't be described as the peak, it is unprecedented. After all, his works in the band many years ago have made China's rock music cause quite a stir in the industry.
From 65438 to 0986, Dou Wei's music can be basically divided into four stages:
First, the epidemic stage.
1986, when Dou Wei was in middle school, he began to get in touch with pop music from the west and began to play and sing the guitar by himself. With the deepening of his understanding of music, Dou Wei began to establish his own life direction. After graduating from technical secondary school, Dou Wei 1987 joined the Beijing Youth Light Music Troupe and began to perform with the group when his peers in the alley were still hanging out. Later, the works he began to sing were basically "pop songs" at that time. He also sang the songs of "Wei Meng Band" and Cui Jian, because he was also good at break dancing. When the songs are intermittent, he will also perform a break dance with the music. His fame gradually spread in the "circle" with the number and scale of performances. It was at that time that Guo, Li, Ding Wu and all met the charming singer on this stage through the introduction of friends, and then they became friends.
Second, the band stage
Panther was originally an electro-acoustic band owned by a beverage company. At that time, there was no independent name. The band members mainly include Guo, Li, Ding Wu and He, rehearsing some pop songs or covering foreign rock music. Later, because it was contrary to the company's profit concept, the contradiction with the band members and the company deepened. 1987, at the suggestion of Thomas Lee, the band became independent and named "Panthers". After that, the band began to try to create their own music. 1988 As Ding Wu left, Guo of the band found Dou Wei and invited him to join the band. Because Dou Wei and Panther had played together earlier, coupled with his voice and stage charm, Guo decided on this candidate, and Guo, who found Dou Wei to express his feelings, waited for Dou Wei's reply urgently, but Dou Wei did not hesitate and agreed to join the band happily. Then Luan Shu joined in as a keyboard player. You know, at that time, the rock circle in Beijing was basically underground, and only performed in some small clubs and bars. However, with the continuous improvement of some band works, Panther soon became famous, but compared with Cui Jian's achievements at that time, Black Panther band was just a rookie. When everyone was depressed, things changed for the better. The preparatory group of "1990 Beijing Modern Concert" contacted Guo, the agent at that time, and asked if Panther would like to attend. The premise is that the band must have their own songs, so "Black Panther" produced its first song-"Facebook". Dou Wei, Thomas Lee and others stepped up their time to rehearse, and almost all their works came out during that time. Dou Wei began to write lyrics on the basis of some early works by Thomas Lee. With his own works, Black Panther band began to shine in the circle, but the result was unexpected. In the end, "Black Panther band" was rejected by "90 Beijing Modern Concert", which was an unforgettable event for "Black Panther band". After this incident,1May, 990, under the organization of Guo, five rock bands, such as Panther and Breath, went south to Shenzhen to hold the "Shenzhen Spring Modern Concert". But somehow, Black Panther band's name did not appear in later reports; However, due to the wonderful performance of Panther, the band received an invitation from Hong Kong. At the 199 1 Carlsberg Hong Kong concert, the lead singers Dou Wei and Black Panther band brought different shocks to Hong Kong fans. At this point, Chen Jiantian has finalized the signing of Black Panther band. Within three weeks after the album was recorded and released, Song of the Panther topped the pop music charts in Hong Kong. Since then, Black Panther has become one of the first-class bands.
199 1 After the concert in Hainan, Dou Wei, Dou Wei cut off her long hair and found Guo to leave the band because there was not much to say here. Later, she also agreed to Guo's request and stopped singing the band's works and works with the same style. Dou Wei kept his promise. After leaving the team, Dou Wei found his youngest son, Chen Xiaohu and others, and formed a "dream team". With the continuous release of works, the dream team began to show its extraordinary strength in the rock circle in Beijing. Dou Wei signed the Truth Society. However, due to the specific times and the Black Panther band incident, the production company in Taiwan Province was unwilling to sign the whole band, only the lead singer Dou Wei. A song "Light of Hope" was released. With the improvement of various conditions after signing the contract, the band began to rehearse and played an early version of Dou Wei's later album Dark Dreams. The shocking power of the works at that time gave a heavy blow to the rock music scene at that time, but it is well known that the "dream team" only existed in the circle for less than ten months for some reasons, and then Truth Society transferred Dou Wei's contract to Magic Stone.
Third, the personal stage.
1994 After joining the Magic Stone, Dou Wei sorted out his dream works and published his first solo album "Dark Dreams". At the end of the year, I attended a concert that shocked the whole Chinese music scene. Today, "the power of Chinese rock music" is still a fond memory of China people and rock fans in Hong Kong and Taiwan. After 1995, Dou Wei, who was in the personal stage, gradually realized his own music path and had a new idea for the future. During this period, Dou Wei not only began to explore his new musical direction, but also influenced Faye Wong, who had married himself. At this time, Dou Wei gradually fell in love with the MIDI technique of electronic music, so in the later album production process, Dou Wei almost settled in the recording studio. With the sudden change of the style of Sunny Days, with the cooperation of Shanhe and the translation band, Dou Wei is getting farther and farther away from rock and roll. 1After divorcing Faye Wong at the end of 999, Dou Wei began to reflect on his own music path, and his marriage with Plateau failed to grow old together.
4. Created an experimental improvisational "new folk music"?
The past two marriages left Dou Wei with the most obvious scar that he became more and more silent, but perhaps it was because of that experience that Dou Wei, who meditated in Houhai Teahouse for three years, became sensitive and delicate in music. From then on, he gave up the lyrics completely, let himself not be bound by the lyrics and enjoy his own thoughts. In today's Dou Wei, music has been completely transformed. Although I am a layman, I don't know what music it is, but I feel joy and anger from his music, and I can see mountains, rivers, clouds and starry sky in my mind. Over the years, Dou Wei's works have spread like a blowout, and the music quality in the album is also first-class. The layered music and pictures have to make people tongue-tied, lamenting that Dou Wei's music is too unconstrained, and many works are named after the playing time of songs or awkward words, which makes many people exclaim what this is. What is this? In fact, in Dou Wei's mind, it doesn't matter what these works are in others' eyes. He followed his heart to create, but this kind of creation was not conceived, but improvised. Pure improvisation works perfectly combine the essence of China's traditional music with Dou Wei's musical thoughts, and works emerge in endlessly. During this period, Dou Wei also participated in the dubbing and production of many films. They are 1999, my favorite snowy day, 200 1 presbyopia, 200 1 looking for a gun, but none of them can be used in the film, 2006 America, 2007 Li Mi conjecture, 20 168. Dou Wei also produced the single "20 12 Beat" on 2012. The whole music of "20 12 Beat" lasted for nearly an hour, with female chanting as the opening. Sheng, flute, keyboard, dulcimer, guitar and drum gradually developed, presenting a refreshing auditory experience with the rhythm. Compared with previous works, this album is an advertising song made by Dou Wei for Hangpai women's clothing "Jiangnan Buyi". The head of the brand image department of women's wear said that before releasing the spring/summer collection of 20 12, they wanted to find Dou Wei as the music director of the catwalk. "The designer likes his music very much. Our clothing this season combines tradition and modernity, seeking inspiration from China elements such as celadon and ink painting. These ideas coincided with Dou Wei, so he decided to cooperate as soon as he heard it. "
I wonder if the above nonsense bothers you. Although many people know this history, I just synthesized it. I hope to see great gods who have different feelings about these contents correct me.
The following information is collected from the Internet. Dou Wei's interview was published in The New York Times. The following is part of it: The day after the performance, I had a talk with Dou Wei for nearly two hours. Dou Wei has no direct communication with any media. I collected some media questions in advance, omitting the part involving private life. I hope that through dialogue, I can reflect and summarize the artistic interaction between music, anthropology, independent scientific research and natural forces created by the Three Rivers. ?
Courtesy from Zhou Lei?
Because most of the rivers and landscapes recorded by Shan Hai Jing and Zhu no longer exist, Zhou Lei's on-site copying of the classics has the function of "guiding the way" to remind the public that the river is leaving us forever. ?
Q: Is this the first time that the water theme includes public welfare activities? ?
A: I think I have, but I'm not impressed. ?
Q: What are the advantages and disadvantages of putting different people together to do things? ?
A: I dare not comment. I'm only worried about falling into the rut and doing superficial articles, but there are also positive aspects. For example, Yushu, which I thought was a disaster area before, now looks brand-new. Sometimes, a bad thing will turn into a good thing, sometimes it is a good thing at first, and then something goes wrong. Therefore, you need to be calm, endurance and stay awake. ?
Q: Our water discussion has combed a big framework along the geographical trend, from northwest to southwest and from west to east. Behind this is actually a private landscape survival experience and research experience. Do you have any water-related memories in Beijing? ?
A: Basically, two words: happy. But from now on, it's really embarrassing and not economical enough. When I was a child, I took a bath with a public faucet in the courtyard, and there was no concept of a long stream of water. There seems to be now, but I don't know if it's too late, because it seems to be in jeopardy now. ?
Q: When you were a child, did you see the water features in Beijing that you can't see now? Such as lakes, reeds and waterways. ?
A: For example, there are Du Fu's poems. The mountainous areas around Beijing are now called tourist attractions. Going now is completely different from when we were in the second grade. There used to be a fast-flowing river, but now it is gone. I have no memory of that year at all. My classmates organize themselves to play in the summer vacation. There is moonlight at night, sitting by the river and singing by the water. Now it's gone. It's tents, hotels and cars. We went in by carriage at that time, and we were caught in a rainstorm. The mountain was already foggy. Later, when I went to Dushi again, I felt particularly dry and humid. It's also summer, and I feel completely hard. As soon as the car passed, the dust rose violently and the impression of that year disappeared. ?
Q: Now Beijing is famous for its poor environment. Do you find a place to hide every year and look for this kind of scenery in your memory? ?
A: I've always wanted to, but after seeing some news, I can imagine the general scene-ticket sales, crowds and vehicles. Considering this, forget it. On the contrary, at the end of 20 12, we traveled around Southeast Asia. For example, in Laos, I actually saw a scene in a movie when I was a child. The peasant woman was washing clothes with a stick by the river with her child on her back. There is a thatched cottage, a river bridge and a little black pig running around beside her. I stood and watched for a long time. The water is clean, too, and it seems intentional at first glance. ?
Q: There is a news on the Internet that when you were recording Seo Woo's album, it seemed that it flooded after recording. ?
A: When we were recording, the water pipes in the area burst and sprayed water more than two meters high. The water soon rose to the ankle and soon reached the knee, so we rushed out to grab the equipment. It was recorded in Deshengmen, the old Deshengmen, and it hasn't been repaired yet. The emergency response at that time was still limited. We joked at that time, was it the rain recording that brought the water? ?
Q: But when it comes to music, it really has the function of sheltering from the wind and rain. Do you believe these things? ?
A: I believe that all "gods" have their own opinions and do not change with people's wishes. It will prompt, it will prompt if it is wrong, and it will prompt if it is right. Not everyone is in charge. People don't think about how they are doing, they just want to be blessed by the gods, which is basically wishful thinking. ?
Q: Is the most religious piece of music you made "The Sorrow of Gold"? ?
A: Songaju Aji is more complete than the golden curse. More precisely, these two pictures are just some religious elements. Songazhu Aji is the pronunciation of 3565 1 in Tibetan. At that time, we used roll call, which is "Missalla Sodo", corresponding to Tibetan. I don't know Tibetan. Coincidentally, in the process of recording, we happened to turn to a book about Tibetan areas, which contained a Chinese-Tibetan correspondence table. Because there is a sentence that repeats "mi sol la sol do" repeatedly, and then this name is used, it is nothing special. ?
Q: This naming method is "not necessarily". ?
A: This is not necessarily because there were many deliberate and artificial detours in the past. At the uncertain stage, I feel natural. ?
Q: When writing Dark Dreams, how did you write songs? ?
A: At that time, it was a rigid so-called hard creation, how to delve into words, dig out feelings, express and so on ... Although it was clumsy, it was still true. In the future, I think this expression is a bit redundant. Everyone has feelings, has their own words to say, to express, and finally it's a bit messy. Even twisted. ?
Q: When you compose music, do you often listen to it? ?
A: Most of what I heard before 2000 was abroad. At that time, there were still some fresh sounds that could stimulate me. After 2000, this situation is rare and almost unheard of. Later, I basically listened to my own things, because there were many achievements in recording, and there were many things to think about repeatedly. Now there are some things that haven't been published yet, so it may take a while. Sometimes I want to publish them as soon as I make them, so that others can hear some feelings at that time, so it will be more contradictory. ?
Q: Do these pieces have manuscripts and music scores? ?
A: No, we are "unreliable". Friends who listened to Yushu yesterday also said that King Gelsall didn't have music either. It's all word of mouth. ?
Q: Four stories of the Three Kingdoms and the King of Twilight have been kept. These picture books are full of classical images of China. I seem to have read a lot of ancient books during my writing. What is the reality? ?
A: No ... I know. It's purely a personal hobby. I fell in love with classical Chinese when I was in junior high school. I also asked my cousin why we didn't talk like this. It is so good and concise. ?
Q: What kind of books do you have? Give a few titles that are often turned over. ?
A: I dare not tell books. Books frequently translated, such as Shi Shuo Xin Yu, have been read for many years?
Q: Have you ever thought about making a musical version of Spoken World Newspeak? ?
What this article sees is different from what it hears. The so-called word is irregular and round. If they can't be perfect, they dare not make a move. ?
Q: Speaking of old words in ancient books, have you ever wondered why the orthography of "medicine" is the word "music" under the grass? ?
A: As far as I know, in ancient times, music could govern the country. At that time, music can rule the people, which will play a potential role in people's body and mind. Sad and melancholy sounds can play a role in the body. It is possible to add natural herbs. ?
Q: Besides, when we were playing with the Menghe River on the spot, when I was copying the Classic of Mountains and Seas, I could hear the boy scouts chanting "Anything is so high, anything can be made". What's that slogan? ?
A: This is a special coincidence. After I learned about your environmental protection concept, I actually took a book from the bookshelf, called "The Age of Disease", which was written by an American in China in the Qing Dynasty and called E.A. Ross. There are old photos in it. When I was looking through them, I suddenly saw some words saying that there were mountains, water and landforms at that time. I think it has something to do with water. It was the Qing Dynasty, and there were already many problems. Although it was beautiful to see the ecology in the Qing Dynasty, such as the panoramic view of the canal you showed on the spot, there were already many problems at that time. Such as corruption, deforestation and riverbed destruction. I crossed out these words for the boy scouts to read. After watching it, record it smoothly. I think it's appropriate to put it in, which is very suitable for the theme of water. I haven't released an album called "Scenery and Sound", which contains a little boy's chanting. My friend's nephew recited "Traveling in Qionglin" in Hakka, and the child's timbre is very good. ?
Q: When you are composing these music, do you have any other expressions? You seem to draw a lot of pictures. ?
A: My hobbies are four words: beautiful music, sports, art and Chinese. No matter what I draw, I feel comfortable in this process. I can forget everything and concentrate on the picture. Travel all over Southeast Asia, drawing all the way, using crayons, oil pastels and pencils. I seldom use ink painting, which requires complicated materials for art lovers. Enthusiastic friends said, I help you out with your album, but I politely declined. I think publishing will be out of date. I also write essays, some of which are in classical Chinese. I think ancient Chinese is better than modern Chinese. ?
Q: We used many objects, devices and ancient Chinese characters in the exhibition of Menghe River, so we call it "understanding through objects", which also means thinking through 28,000 dead rivers. Look at the overall effect of this three rivers ecological art exhibition through music and anthropology? ?
A: This is also a coincidence. When I was writing Menghe River, I also saw the news of 28,000 rivers. Did you ask me to refer to Buddhist scriptures when I wrote synopsis of the golden chamber? In fact, what stimulated me to record The Sorrow of Gold was the news that I saw dead pigs floating in the river. At that time, I thought there was a big problem with this landscape. ?
I watched a lot of news and documentaries about landscape pollution some time ago. Just before I came to Shanghai for the premiere, I watched a documentary about man-made landscapes, which was filmed in the 1980s. Recorded the breathtaking scenes brought by man-made, pollutants and man-made projects all over China, which made people feel very touched and felt the environmental problems faced by China as a whole. ?
For example, there are mountains of e-waste, in which people dig up all kinds of useful garbage objects, cut the whole mountain open, exposing the whole mountain, and even have angular facades. For example, there is a mountain like great basin, with only water as big as an ashtray in the middle, which is green. ?
The three classics published by the Institute of Natural Forces-The Classic of Mountains and Seas, Water Mirror Zhu and Guide Jing-are really far away from modern urbanites and are almost mythical texts. But it's important. If my music can inspire people to think and read these texts, I would like to introduce them. ?
Personally, I think the interaction and cooperation with the Institute of Natural Forces to copy the classics on the spot is appropriate, tangible and intangible, and I think it is valuable. I haven't tried it before, and it has produced special effects, which is why I always want everyone to pay more attention to this part of the sound when listening to my music, rather than watching the external staged routine performance. Music is heard with your ears, not your eyes. If you have an imaginative person, you will naturally have a certain visual feeling when you hear the sound. This feeling may be related to the player's emotions and visual imagination, or it may be a spontaneous association and visual imagination. The key lies in imagination and sensitivity, as well as the ability to listen to important emotions in music. For those who lack both, even if things are in front of them, they turn a blind eye.
Dou Wei didn't want to be immortal, and he didn't want to be worshipped by anyone. He can do it whenever he wants, but he is disdainful in his bones and takes music so seriously that everyone around him thinks he is crazy. You think he is cold because he doesn't want to be interviewed by entertainment media and refuses to take part in various variety shows to get money, because as long as he has a little money to support himself and his favorite music, he won't worship money. Although I have participated in the music creation of some movies in recent years, those are also aimed at increasing the recording cost of my new music album.
It took nearly half an hour to encode these words. I hope you can understand Dou Wei's music.
