The Red Cross is a charitable relief organization all over the world, aiming at promoting the Red Cross Movement (or Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement). It is the largest and most influential similar organization in the world. In addition to many countries legislating to protect its special status, the Red Cross often cooperated closely with the government and the military in wartime and became a well-known charity organization. Swiss banker Henry Dunant founded the Red Cross. The Red Cross designated May 8th, his birthday, as "World Red Cross Day". The Red Cross almost became a totem symbol, which was made by flipping the color of the national flag of his native Switzerland.

The origin of the red cross

The International Red Cross was founded in 1864 by Swiss Henri Dunant. 1859, Henry Dunant passed through Lombardy, Italy, and witnessed the fierce battle of Austrian, French and Sardinian troops in Solferino. He found that the wounded soldiers were often neglected and in a miserable situation, so in 1862, he published a book in memory of Solferino/Unovunir de Solferino at his own expense.

The word "Red Cross" stands for three names at the same time. Generally speaking, according to the principle of "universality" of the Red Cross, almost all countries have regional Red Cross or Red Crescent Societies, while under the principle of "unity", there is only one Red Cross Society in a country. The International Committee of the Red Cross, originally founded by Henri Dunant, is still in operation, providing humanitarian assistance and supervising the treatment of prisoners of war in accordance with the Geneva Conventions and related protocols. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is responsible for coordinating the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in various countries and helping refugees suffering from natural disasters.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross are now observers of the United Nations.

The "Red Cross" of the Red Cross is a proprietary symbol. According to the Geneva Convention, the Red Cross has the force of international law. It can only be used by national Red Cross Societies, international committees and international federations in non-wartime and used as a protective sign for battlefield medical personnel in wartime. No armed forces may attack the vehicles, personnel or facilities marked with the Red Cross, or they will be war criminals.
