What are the characteristics of Yunnan local pig breeds?

There are three types of local pig breeds in Yunnan: southwest, south China and plateau. There are Dahe pig, Saba pig and Baoshan pig in the southwest, Diannan small ear pig, Banna miniature pig and gaoligongshan pig in the south, and Diqing Tibetan pig in the plateau [1]. Dahe pig, Saba pig and Baoshan pig are mainly distributed in the vast agricultural areas with an altitude of 1, 000m ~ 2,000 m, and they are the main female parents of pig production in Yunnan. Small-ear pigs and Banna miniature pigs in southern Yunnan are mainly distributed in tropical and subtropical areas with high temperature and high humidity. Gaoligongshan pig is located on the west side of Gaoligong Mountain in Tengchong, which is cool and rainy. Diqing Tibetan pigs are mainly distributed in the plateau area of northwest Yunnan above 3000 meters above sea level.

Due to the unique ecological conditions and feeding methods, gaoligongshan pig has formed unique germplasm characteristics. The results of secondary feeding observation and determination show that its muscle contains high nutritional essential fatty acids [5]. According to the determination results of two batches of farmed meat, the contents of unsaturated fatty acids in gaoligongshan pig were 67.88% and 665,438 0.57%, respectively, and 68.365,438 0% under stocking conditions. The contents of linoleic acid, linolenic acid and arachidonic acid were 19.755, 16.24 and 20.99%, respectively, which were much higher than the average values of Yangbaozayou pig, Baoshan pig, Banna mixed-race wild boar and pigs from 8 provinces and cities, indicating that gaoligongshan pig was characterized by high intramuscular unsaturated fatty acids and nutritionally essential fatty acids. Banna miniature pig was bred from small-ear pigs in southern Yunnan, with short stature, slow growth and various physiological and biochemical indexes close to human body. It is an ideal model animal for medical biology experiments [10].
