Which day is Ningbo Lantern Festival celebrated?
Ningbo traditionally celebrates the Lantern Festival on the 14th day of the first month, commonly known as "Fourteen Nights". According to the Records of Ninghai County written by Chongzhen in Ming Dynasty and Kangxi in Qing Dynasty, the lanterns in the Lantern Festival Hall were closed from 13th to 20th. Before Kangxi, Lantern Festival refers to a period of time, not a certain day.
Guangxu's "Ninghai County Records": "The Lantern Festival is called the _ site boundary, and the city temple fair decorated lanterns and performed a play to worship the gods until the 20th. The fifteenth day of the first month is called Yuanxiao, with fourteen in the city and thirteen in the country. " It can be seen that it was not until the middle and late Qing Dynasty that the fourteenth night of the first month was determined as the Lantern Festival. The most lively events are the Lantern Festival held in Gantong and Huangtan, and the food customs in Yicheng and Sangzhou.
