What are the advantages and disadvantages of building gypsum in application?

Advantages:

The setting and hardening are fast, and the building gypsum can be completely hardened after being mixed with water for about 1 week.

When solidified, the volume expands slightly, which makes gypsum products smooth, accurate in size, full in shape and good in decoration, and does not produce shrinkage cracks after drying. In addition, gypsum products are clean and delicate, especially suitable for making architectural decoration products.

The porosity is very large. Due to the porous structure of hardened body, building gypsum products have the advantages of low apparent density, light weight, good thermal insulation performance and strong sound absorption, and also have a certain temperature and humidity control effect.

Good fire resistance. After the gypsum dihydrate of building gypsum products meets the fire, the crystal water evaporates to form a steam curtain, which can prevent the fire from spreading and play a role in fire prevention.

Insufficient:

Poor water resistance and frost resistance. Building gypsum is a kind of air-hardening cementitious material with strong water absorption. In a humid environment for a long time, the binding force between crystal particles will weaken until it dissolves, so it is not water-resistant and frost-resistant.

Poor fire resistance. Building gypsum is used at high temperature above 65℃ for a long time, and dihydrate gypsum slowly dehydrates and decomposes, and its strength decreases, so it is not fire-resistant.
