How to divide the young and the old

Before 1994, the international standard was to divide the population into three age groups, namely: zero to 14 years old for the child population ¨C 5 to 64 years old for the working-age population (China's division standard is to 60 years old); 65 years old and above for the elderly population.

In the late 20th century, the United Nations has a new division standard, the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) after the global human body quality and average life expectancy measurement, the age of the division standard made a new provision. The regulation divides human life into five age groups. Namely:

Young people under 44 years old;

Middle-aged people between 45 and 59 years old;

Young old people between 60 and 74 years old;

Elderly people between 75 and 89 years old;

Elderly people above 90 years old.

China's folk often "more than half a hundred years old" for entering old age, and accustomed to sixty flower armor, seventy years old, eighty for the oldest, ninety for the nineties on behalf of the different periods of old age, the Chinese Medical Association, the Society of Gerontology in 1982 recommended: China to 60 years of age or older for the elderly; old age staging according to the age of 45 to 59 years of age for the elderly Pre-age (middle-aged and elderly), 60 to 89 years old (elderly), 90 years old and above for the long life period (longevity of the elderly).

The old age is the last stage of the life cycle, in fact, the old age can also be divided into different stages. The World Health Organization, according to the changes in the physiological and psychological structure of modern people, has made a new division of the age limit of human beings: 44 years of age for young people; 45 to 59 years of age for the middle-aged people; 60 to 74 years of age for the young elderly; 75 to 89 years of age for the old old people; 90 years of age and above for the very old old people or the elderly of longevity.
