Putonghua is popular now, should we consider retaining local dialects?

Although Mandarin has become the official popular language, the original local dialects should also be preserved.

First of all, before the popularization of Putonghua, many places spoke their own hometown dialect. Even when they went to other places, they still spoke fluent hometown dialect, but some hometown dialects were obscure, which brought some troubles to people's communication. Therefore, Mandarin is designated as the official language. Mandarin is a very easy language to learn. In today's society, except for some elderly people, basically everyone can speak Mandarin, which has satisfied people's daily communication. So, on the other hand, dialects seem to become less important and even hinder people's communication.

However, dialects are also the crystallization of ancestral wisdom. They can be said to be the cultural characteristics of a place with a long history, so dialects can be said to be the traditional culture of China. Of course, these traditional cultures should be inherited and protected and cannot be lost in the torrent of history. But now that Mandarin is the official language, children basically speak Mandarin instead of hometown dialect, which brings some troubles to the inheritance of hometown dialect. No one learns local dialects that are of little practical use, so no one can speak hometown dialect after at most three generations.

So if we are still considering whether to keep our hometown, it is very likely that with the development of time, the hometown dialect will really disappear quietly in the torrent of history. Therefore, I feel obligated to preserve and inherit the local dialect. We must take relevant measures in a short time. You can use video or recording to keep the characteristic language of hometown dialect, or you can use hometown dialect as a special interest class in local schools, so that children can understand the local language and interested students can further study. This can avoid the disappearance of hometown dialect.
