The meaning of five virtues and ten righteousness!

What does "five virtues" mean? Father and son are related, monarch and minister are righteous, husband and wife are different, young and old are orderly, and friends are trustworthy.

What do you mean by "ten meanings"? Father's kindness, son's filial piety, brother's friend, brother's respect, husband's righteousness, woman's listening, long-term benefit, young obedience, gentleman's benevolence and minister's loyalty.

The words "five virtues and ten meanings" are relatively simple, and most of them can be understood literally. Among them, the "ten meanings" point out the most basic rules and points of five interdependent interpersonal relationships: father and son, brother, couple, old and young, and monarch and minister.

The derived material "five ethics and ten meanings" has always been the most basic moral principle in ancient China. Together with other self-cultivation principles such as "four dimensions and eight virtues" elaborated in my previous article, it constitutes the cultural soul of the Chinese nation. Due to historical limitations, expressions such as "the benevolence of a gentleman" and "the loyalty of a minister" are obviously out of date, but we take their core concepts and flexibly apply them to the widespread relationship between superiors and subordinates in modern society.

There is a famous saying, "Practice is the only criterion for testing truth". You can affirm or deny what your ancestors handed down. You can regard it as a treasure or discard it as a shoe. However, before you make a decision, please at least get to know the person who will make the choice.

This is a disrespect for China's traditional culture, and it is also the personal sorrow of the parties concerned. It is necessary to find out what it specifically says and whether it draws on the value of inheritance, instead of subjectively, unconditionally and hysterically denouncing it as feudal dross!
