What is a typical continental breakfast?
The typical European breakfast.
I'm a professor who teaches food service to hospitality management students, so breakfast is interesting and standard. So I wanted to share my knowledge with you.
The answer may be slightly off the right question because as you can see Europe is not a single country but a continent. So let's take a look at two of the best breakfasts in Europe, one we'll call the Continental Breakfast and the other we'll call the English Breakfast, which I'll cover in more detail below.
Enjoy brekafast.

Continental Breakfast
The original Continental B/F had only 2 courses. They were
1. toast or rolls with butter and preserves
2. a choice of hot drinks.
There are four terms associated with the original Continental B/F here. They are
1. Guests only like coffee, not food.
2. The guest liked continental coffee and coffee as a drink.
3. The guest likes only tea and not food.
4. Full Meal = Guest prefers Continental with tea.
Continental B/F course includes the following 3 courses to make it a complete and easy B/F.
Fresh Fruit Selection- Fruits such as Papaya, Pineapple and Grapes.
Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice, Mango Juice, Grapefruit Juice, Tomato Juice, etc. (in 5 oz. juice glasses)
Breakfast rolls to choose from (croissants, Danish pastries, muffins, doughnuts, paleo, Chelsea Bread, or creme brulee omelettes) 2 - 3 pieces per serving.
With butter and preserves (a) jam, mixed fruit, raspberries, strawberries, cherries, mango marmalade, etc.), (b) marmalade, (orange marmalade with orange zest) and (c) honey.
Europe consists of many countries with different culinary traditions. Often Americans tend to think of Europe as a whole (and that makes sense considering that the entire country of the United States is somewhat more than European countries) however, as proud as we are to be European and to think of each other like brothers - our histories are too long to bring about the development of very different traditions and cultures.
In Italy, if we are at home, we eat "pane e marmellata" (fresh bread and jam) or biscuits/cereal/cake with coffee (coffee with milk). Or "cornetto" (similar to a croissant) and cappuccino if we eat breakfast outside.
