Why is Mu's manor called the Little Forbidden City in China?

Mu's Manor, also known as "Muerhei Manor", is located in du cun, an ancient town in the north of Qixia City, Shandong Province, where several generations of northern Mu family lived together.

The whole manor building is rigorous, solid and solemn, and it is the largest, most complete and typical manor in northern China.

Because of its large scale and profound connotation, Moushi Manor has been evaluated by many experts and scholars as "the living fossil of a century-old manor" and "the treasure of traditional architecture". At the same time, Moushi Manor was also praised by later generations as "a small folk palace in China".

Mou Zhiyi's son built the manor Rixin Hall.

Mu's Manor, also known as "Muerhei Manor", is not only grand, simple and spectacular, but also integrates China's historical culture, architectural culture and folk culture.

So, who founded such a magnificent Moushi Manor? How was it created?

The establishment of Mou's manor is inseparable from a man named Mou. When it comes to Mou, we should start with Mou Zhiyi, Mou's grandfather.

Mou Zhiyi originally lived in the "Xinyue Pavilion" in Qixia City, and moved to the later ancient town of du cun Moushi Manor in 1742, where he built four thatched cottages, namely "small thatched cottages", so Mou Zhiyi became the first generation owner of Moushi Manor.

Although Mou Zhiyi was the first generation owner of Mou's manor, his family was not rich at that time. He lost his father at the age of 18, and lived with his uncle Mi Mou, who was like a father and son. At the age of 30, he separated from his uncle. According to the 14th Mou Yuanxiang's Xiao Fei Caotang Ancient Essays Collection:

At the age of 30, Mou Zhiyi resigned from his uncle's job and moved from the Xinyue Pavilion in the city to the capital of the ancient town.

You are as miserable as a poor scholar's house inside and outside. There are no treasures such as ancient tripod calligraphy and Yi ware, and even several boxes of beds are for daily use.

After living in the countryside, I was a little embarrassed at first. I was so stupid and unpretentious that I was safe with it and didn't feel stupid.

Therefore, Mou Zhiyi grew up in a poor family and had a rough fate. Even so, he never thought of giving up on himself. Instead, he moved from the "Xinyue Pavilion" to the ancient town of du cun, and gradually developed and established his own home.

It is said that when Mou Zhiyi and his uncle separated, they only had more than 300 mu of land, and by the time of Mou Miao, they had reached thousands of mu of land. From the initial 60 mu of land, Mu Miao has developed to thousands of mu of land now, from which we can see that Mu Miao's management mode is very smart.

With so much land, Mou Miao naturally wanted to build a house on his own land, so Mu Miao led the invited workers to build the earliest group of buildings "Rixintang" in Mou's manor.

This Rixin Hall, commonly known as "Laoge", has six courtyards and five courtyards, including a hall, a hall, a living room, a double-decker bedroom, a north wing and a west wing, with a total of 89 rooms.

"Rixin Hall" was built in 1735. At that time, the surrounding area was still a wilderness and the buildings were scattered. Later, it was in charge of Mou Miao's son, Mou Miao, and gradually formed a scale.

After Rixintang became the courtyard where Mou lived, many important decisions of the manor were made here, which was regarded as the birthplace of Mou Manor. After Mou's death, it has been inherited by the eldest son and grandson of later generations. Compared with other courtyards, it has a sense of historical vicissitudes.
