Introduction to Shandong Folklore

Shandong folklore shows diversity and regionality.

1. Jinan, Qingzhou, Tai'an and Yanzhou in the hinterland of Shandong are traditional political, economic and cultural centers.

2. Among them, Qufu and Zoucheng are the hometowns of Confucius and Mencius, whose customs not only affect the local area but also reach home and abroad.

3. Tai'an has Mount Tai, the first of the Five Mountains. Mount Tai is not only the place where the emperors and kings of the past dynasties have revered Zen, but also the place where people have honored the gods.

4. The family customs and folk beliefs in the hinterland of Shandong are typical of the folk heritage of the neighboring regions and can be regarded as representative of Shandong folklore.

Eastern coastal areas

Fishing customs and folk customs of going out to do business are most prominent, and the fishing customs of Rizhao, Rongcheng, Penglai and Changdao are most typical.

Southeast Shandong Province

Ancient cultures with mountainous features originated earlier and retained many traditional folk customs. Dialects

The rich folklore has also bred different regional dialects.

1.Shandong dialect belongs to the northern dialects, which are divided into three categories: Jilu official dialect, Zhongyuan official dialect and Jiao Liao official dialect.

2. Jinan, Liaocheng, Dezhou, Binzhou, Zibo, and Tai'an belong to the Jilu Official Dialect, which is an easy-to-understand dialect in Shandong Province.

3. South Lu and Southwest Lu, including Heze, Jining, Zaozhuang and Linyi, belong to the Central Plains Official Dialect, which is a difficult dialect to understand. Qingdao, Yantai, Weihai and Rizhao on the Shandong Peninsula belong to the Jiao Liao official dialect, also known as Jiaodong dialect, which is the most difficult to understand.

4. Due to geographical, cultural and living habits, dialects around the world show great differences in phonetics, vocabulary and grammar.
