Difference between Hard and Brush Calligraphy

Brush calligraphy is generally larger, larger, easy to appreciate. But nowadays more as artistic creation, the application is less, coupled with the use of rice paper, burlap and other specialized paper writing. Its expenditure is large; hard pen calligraphy is small and exquisite, easy to write. Also easy to modify, basically not limited to paper, so widely used in all walks of life.

The reason why hard pen calligraphy is called calligraphy, because it has an inseparable link between calligraphy and brush.

1. They both use Chinese characters as the carrier, i.e., Chinese characters as the object of expression.

2. Although the two are different in brushwork, the structural laws and chapters are basically the same.

3. The line performance of the hard pen can draw on the brush strokes. For example, the hard pen calligraphy draws on the method of complete and light brush strokes. Make the strokes more colorful.

Above analysis, we can see that the hard calligraphy and brush calligraphy are both different and related to the two arts. The difference makes them relatively independent art forms, and the connection makes them closely related. Learning hard-copy calligraphy can draw more on the experience of brush calligraphy, but it is not necessary to first learn brush calligraphy in order to write good hard-copy characters. The brush character has developed into a wonderful art because it has been used as a practical script for the Chinese people for two thousand years.
