The Significance of Tu Nationality's Wedding

Mutual-help Tu wedding has the characteristics of compatibility of local culture, Tibetan culture and Chinese culture. The wedding songs of Tu nationality have beautiful tunes and rich connotations, including astronomy, geography, history, religion, deification, life customs and so on. They are the most prominent embodiment of the traditional culture of the Tu nationality, including the spirit, beliefs and values of the Tu nationality, involving all aspects of the Tu nationality's basic necessities of life, clothing, housing and transportation, with strong local characteristics and unique national characteristics. They are important carriers of Tu folk literature and folk art, and are of great significance to the study of Tu culture and values.

The state attaches great importance to the protection of intangible cultural heritage. On May 20th, 2006, this folk custom was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
