The origin of the festival of Sheba:

According to legend, 800 years ago, Peng Papu, the ancestor of Tujia people, invited seven Tujia people with different surnames, including Li Papu, to become brothers and fight against Japan together. Because of the traitor's betrayal, the two brothers called for tragic death. A few days later, when the villagers heard the news and came to collect the body, a piece of maggots and scattered bones were left at the scene.

Later, in order to drive away these poisonous insects, punish evil and promote good, Tujia people built the Sheba Hall to worship these seven heroes and set up these seven Papu gods. Before spring ploughing every year, under the leadership of Li Guanghua, Sabah Tou, Flag-waving Team, Gong and Drum Team, Broom Sweeper Team and Sacrifice Queue Team enter the stadium, jumping, swinging and sweeping all the way.

Finally, four people carried a big fat pig to the front of the Potang, praying for good weather, abundant crops and prosperous people in the coming year. After praying to the ancestors for a while, untie the trotters. After the first person spoke, six or seven teenagers swarmed and kicked the pig to death with their feet. Then a butcher cut open his chest with a knife and took out a bloody pig heart with his hand and offered it to the gods for enjoyment. Then cut off the pig's head to show respect for the ancestors.

This sacrificial activity fully shows that Tujia children dare to serve their heroic ancestors and are not afraid of bloodshed and sacrifice, which shows the end of severely punishing traitors and spies.
