Summary of the work of farmers’ professional cooperatives

Yufeng Aquatic Cooperative 2011 Work Report

2011 is coming to an end. Looking back on the past year, I feel fulfilled in the busy life and happy in the nervous state. We carefully summarize the road we have traveled, seek true knowledge in summarizing, and seek development in summarizing. It is necessary to further enhance the cooperative's ability to organize production, promote technology, and resist market risks. Let every member actually increase production and income, and do their best for the development of the fishery industry in our county.

Due to a once-in-a-century drought in the first half of this year, almost all fish ponds were short of water. We launched a arduous and busy drought defense battle, striving to minimize losses. We organized members to dig ditches to grab water and tried every means to bring water in. At the same time, we also received strong support from the local party committee and government. We diverted water from the Yangtze River and the Hudu River until the Hudu River dried up and the east, west, and south main canals dried up. At the same time, two professional well-drilling teams were organized to drill more than ten wells in a row to ensure that the water depth in each fishing pond reached 1 meter, and there were no large-scale accidents of dead fish overturning the pond.

In the later production process, we take multiple measures to ensure a bumper harvest. Mainly focus on five aspects: First, focus on water quality management during production and prevent and control fish diseases. At the beginning of the year, we specially invited experts such as Yuan Keping from the Yangtze River Fisheries Research Institute, Professor Fan Jiangtao from Huihai Group, and Teacher Zhou from Beijing Fishery Economics Company to give lectures to our members. Introduce an efficient stocking model and rationally utilize fish pond water bodies. Vigorously promote economical, affordable and environmentally friendly biological control technologies, use microbial agents to improve water transfer, reduce nitrite and ammonia nitrogen content in water bodies, and scientifically control water quality. Usually, technicians from fish medicine companies such as Sichuan Fangcao and Wuhan Huayang or feed companies such as Liuhe and Tongwei are specially invited to visit members' fishing ponds to provide guidance. Second, purchase computers and printers to strengthen aquaculture disease forecasting and prevention. More than 1,000 copies of promotional materials were printed and distributed to protect fishery production. Third, strengthen self-learning. In May, we went to Beijing to participate in the 8th National Farmers' Cooperative Operation Model Development Summit Forum, and became members of the China Farmers' Cooperatives Information Network. We also purchased the management system software of farmers' cooperatives. It has laid a good foundation for the standardized management of cooperatives and the circulation of agricultural products by members. Fourth, in order to solve the investment bottleneck of members, we raised funds from various sources. It has established good credit relationships with the China Post Bank Public Security Branch and the Public Security Rural Credit Cooperative Bank, and has provided guaranteed loans of more than 3 million yuan to fishermen and farmers. When there is no difficulty in capital turnover, fishermen and farmers are allowed to sell fish medicine, feed, etc. on credit without increasing the price. The cooperative also secured fishery machinery subsidies from the County Agricultural Machinery Bureau. Fifth, do a good job in supporting the three machines of the fishing pond. The cooperative has successively obtained the regional agency rights for Jinhu Xiaoqingqing Public Security County, Jiangsu Province, and the regional agency rights for Jingzhou City of Shanghai Nanrong Aquatic Products’ surge machine. These devices have been sold in the market for many years, and the quality and effect are very good, especially the surge machine, which transforms a life-saving machine into a production-increasing machine, preventing fish from being starved of oxygen and not clumping together, and turning stagnant water into living water. Through these measures, there have been basically no fatal fish accidents or pond overturning accidents. It has well ensured the normal production of cooperative members, and the unit output of fish has not only not decreased but also increased compared with last year.

The fishing market conditions this year are similar to last year. The market is stagnant and fish prices are low. We went to Wuhan, Changde, Guiyang, Zunyi, Chongqing, Xi'an and other places to inspect market conditions, negotiate with local fish merchants, bring them in, actively serve them, and transfer fish from fish farmers out. We wanted to build a brand, so we registered the "Maosuili" agricultural product trademark with the County Industrial and Commercial Bureau to prepare for future connections between farmers and supermarkets.

When you see the results, you should also find the shortcomings. There are many factors that seriously restrict our development. Mainly manifested in the following aspects: First, the existing conventional breeding model is no longer suitable for the market, and supply obviously exceeds demand. We should vigorously introduce good breeding varieties and models. Second, the fish ponds are in urgent need of upgrading. Most of our fishing ponds are old ponds that are more than 20 years old. The silt is too deep, the water quality is easily deteriorated, and fish diseases are easy to occur. Third, the three big mountains of water sources, roads, and electricity in the fishing grounds have been weighing on us. The water inlet canals are overgrown with weeds and heavily silted. The water is usually filled with smelly water. It is basically impossible to change the water in the fish ponds. The roads are mainly gravel roads, there is no cement road, and the fish pond must have sunny weather to produce fish. In addition, there is a serious shortage of electricity and electricity prices have been rising. Almost all aerators are life-saving machines. Fourth, the main members of our cooperative are still lacking in abilities. In particular, aquatic expertise simply cannot meet the needs of members. Fifth, cooperatives have basically no ability to withstand market risks. We must forge ahead and set up emergency mechanisms to resist risks. So that members can indeed receive high-quality one-stop services before, during and after delivery, thereby increasing production and income. Continuously tap into potential to fully and effectively utilize our fishery resources.

In short, with the strong support from all walks of life, we have been able to avoid disasters in the year of major disasters and are basically the same as last year. The cooperative has grown from scratch, from fishermen watching to actively joining. We deeply feel that we have a great responsibility. We must serve the members' thoughts and concerns, and be their leaders.

The development of cooperatives is inseparable from the guidance and support of superior authorities. We hope that leaders at all levels will pay more attention to the development of Yufeng Aquatic Products Cooperative and inject new vitality into us. We will definitely fulfill our mission and work with fuller enthusiasm for work. The farmers make profits, the eaters benefit, and they devote themselves to the development of the fishery industry in our county.
