Can ice be used as an optical fiber? Why?

If we just want to let the ice transmit light to test the principle of optical communication, it is feasible, but it is not necessary. It's not as simple as coming directly through the air.

Personally, I think there are several reasons why we can't make optical fiber:

1) is not easy to store

2) The light loss is too great.

3) Not suitable for wiring. Mainly there is no bending condition.

4) The manufacturing environment will lead to higher cost than glass fiber.

5) Not suitable for adding other products. (For example, processing any optical device requires a high temperature environment of 85 degrees).

6) The most important one. Optical fiber equipment must pass the environmental test of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. The ice can't pass at all.
