How to optimize English classroom teaching in rural primary schools according to local conditions and aptitude

This paper discusses and analyzes some outstanding problems existing in English teaching in rural primary schools at present, with a view to finding solutions to these problems. The attitude of primary school students and the views of relevant expert teachers show that cultivating students' interest in actively learning English is the key to the successful implementation of English teaching in primary schools, attaching importance to cultural teaching is the bridge to learn English well, and improving the basic quality of English teachers in primary schools is the cornerstone of successful English teaching in primary schools.

With the wide implementation of the National Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education promulgated by the Ministry of Education and the continuous improvement of teachers' teaching level, English teaching in primary schools is playing an increasingly important role. Due to the constraints of local economic level, educational conditions, family background and other factors, English teaching in rural primary schools often shows its particularity. Therefore, English teaching in rural primary schools must adapt to local conditions and teach students in accordance with their aptitude. Combined with the reality of rural primary schools where I teach, I talk about my own thoughts on English teaching in rural primary schools.

First, the outstanding problems in rural primary school English teaching

1, the teaching conditions are backward

Poor school conditions are the objective unfavorable factors that hinder the promotion of rural English teaching. Because the English teaching facilities, books, audio-visual and teaching AIDS in rural primary schools are not in place, teachers generally only take a simple way of reciting with students, relying on a mouth, a blackboard and a piece of chalk. Some schools don't even have language cards, tapes and wall charts, let alone some audio-visual teaching equipment. The lecture content is empty and boring, which is not convenient for students to understand and absorb. This directly affects the effect of classroom teaching, students' learning attitude and enthusiasm.

2. There is a shortage of English teachers in rural areas.

At present, there is a serious shortage of English teachers in rural schools. Although many schools offer English courses, there are no English teachers. Most of the existing English teachers are part-time, and their knowledge of pronunciation and grammar is specious. Their ability and professional quality can be imagined. The survey shows that the age structure and educational background structure of rural English teachers can't meet the needs of simple English teaching. The low basic quality of teachers has become a "bottleneck" that restricts the development of English teaching in rural primary schools.

3. Educational ideas are lagging behind.

(1,) Teachers' consciousness is weak. Influenced by traditional ideas, many primary school English teachers turn a blind eye to the purpose and significance of foreign language learning and lack enthusiasm and initiative in teaching. Most of them are "wearing several hats", focusing on their own "responsibilities", unable to really put their minds into English teaching, and their ideological consciousness is not in place, which makes teaching methods and methods boring and not conducive to the improvement of classroom teaching efficiency.

(2) Parents are biased. Many parents think that children can learn Chinese and math well in primary school, and some parents think that it is useless for their children to take English exams, and they are even more reluctant to invest in auxiliary learning supplies such as repeaters and tapes for their children, which greatly reduces students' enthusiasm and initiative in learning English.

(3) Students' attitude is not correct. Many children think that they learn foreign languages for entrance exams, so they don't appreciate the fun of learning English in primary schools, which is a great failure of English education in primary schools. Under the influence of such an attitude, how can there be good teachers and students?

Second, the voice of primary school students and the advice of experts.

1, English learning trend of primary school students

Someone has done a survey on what kind of English classes pupils like, and the results show that pupils like 1) teachers are humorous and the classroom atmosphere is harmonious; 2) The teaching content is rich and substantial; 3) Flexible and diverse teaching forms; 4) Can give full play to the imagination. Some people have also investigated what kind of classroom games primary school students like best, and the order of scores is: 1) competition awards; 2) rapid response; 3) role-playing; 4) dialogue between teachers and students, 5) listening and speaking training. It can be seen that primary school students have the learning needs of seeking knowledge, becoming talents and cultivating body and mind in English learning. If teachers use these methods to assist teaching in class, the effect will be different.

2. Teaching suggestions of relevant experts

Some experts believe that the success of English education in primary schools lies in keeping children's long-term interest and self-confidence in learning English, so that they can learn English happily when they enter middle school. That is successful English teaching in primary schools. Interest is the key to success. Therefore, English teaching in primary schools should put the cultivation of students' interest in learning in the first place, let teachers teach in games and let students learn in games, so as to truly appreciate the fun of English learning.

Third, strategies to solve outstanding problems in English teaching in primary schools

1, to stimulate students' interest in learning and pay attention to the flexibility and diversity of teaching methods.

Interest is the best teacher. Interest is an important cornerstone for primary school students to learn English, a bridge from primary school to middle school, and plays a key role in the actual teaching process. In English teaching in rural primary schools, although the teaching equipment is backward, teachers should learn to use local materials, present the teaching content to students through physical objects, pictures, photos, stick figures, gestures, movements, expressions and other intuitive means, reproduce the text scene, and make the teaching content as vivid and concrete as possible, so as to narrow the distance between the teaching content and students and let students directly feel the language application environment.

When presenting new language points, if we can show objects (different learning tools, fruits, food, clothes, colors, etc. At the same time, according to the actual situation, stimulate students' brain excitement, directly feel English, strengthen their desire for knowledge and then form a profound impact. Sometimes, letting students draw their own favorite scenery will not only help students understand the text and grasp the main idea, but also help students transfer and use language knowledge effectively and flexibly.

2. Pay attention to cultural teaching and cultivate students' comprehensive ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Actively creating English learning situations is one of the effective ways to improve students' learning effect. Students mainly study English in the classroom. Teachers should make full use of the classroom as the main teaching position, design colorful activities, strive to create an environment for students to learn English, and improve students' enthusiasm for learning and using English. In the actual teaching process, teachers can teach students to sing simple English songs, tell English short stories, role play, create children's songs and sitcoms, introduce foreign places of interest and expose students to the cultural atmosphere of English learning, thus cultivating students' comprehensive ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

In recent years, some festivals in western countries have been gradually respected by our people. For example, mother's day, Christmas, Thanksgiving and so on. In the actual teaching process, on the occasion of Christmas, I held the activity of "Celebrating Christmas Children's Songs in Chinese and English" with students, which enabled students to experience and appreciate the characteristics of English culture in a strong cultural atmosphere, thus further stimulating their interest and enthusiasm in learning and using English. Hold "Thanksgiving Day" English Handwritten Newspaper Competition, "XX I want to tell you" and other activities on Thanksgiving Day to express gratitude to those who want to thank you most, so that students can closely link English learning with real life, learn cultural knowledge in life, and apply cultural knowledge to life, from life to life.

3. Strengthen the construction of teaching staff and promote the improvement of English teachers' own quality.

In view of the low overall quality of rural primary and secondary school teachers, the relevant departments should strengthen the training of English teachers and provide high-quality human resources for the implementation of English courses in rural primary schools. First of all, we should strengthen the basic quality training of rural primary school teachers. Strengthen the communication and cooperation between English teachers between schools, free English teachers from other courses, learn English well, teach English well, and study English classes wholeheartedly, which will inject fresh vitality and blood into classroom teaching and play a leading role.

Secondly, teaching and research activities of rural English teachers are held regularly. Many rural English teachers can't find a solution to the puzzling problems in teaching, so they have to bury themselves in their own thinking. Communication and collision will produce sparks of wisdom. Participating in teaching and research activities not only helps to improve teachers' own quality, realize the transformation from "I want to teach" to "I want to teach", but also helps to show the teaching effect. At the same time, schools at the forefront of teaching in city english should carry out "one-on-one" activities with rural areas, create opportunities for rural English teaching to "go global", let rural primary school teachers "introduce" new English teaching concepts and methods, and help promote the steady and healthy development of rural primary school English teaching.

4. Establish a scientific and reasonable evaluation system to give students a stage to fully display themselves.

English Voice Observation answers for you: English teaching in primary schools should not only face all students, but also pay attention to teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, fully mobilize the enthusiasm of each student and give students a stage to fully show themselves. In the actual teaching process, I try to give full play to the enthusiasm of each student and make a scientific and reasonable evaluation of each student. (1), for those students with weak foundation, when they suddenly raise their hands to speak, I always give them a chance to listen to their own voices first. No matter what they say is right or wrong, I wait patiently for them to finish and give appropriate encouragement. A "you are great", a small sticker, a cartoon smiling face and a thumb … really make them feel the teacher's attention and encouragement to them, thus stimulating their enthusiasm for learning and establishing their self-confidence in learning English well. (2) For those students who have a good English foundation, I organized and implemented the "Yellow Ribbon" activity, communicated with parents in time by using the teacher's post-it notes, arranged "Little Yellow Book" homework for students of different levels and difficulties, urged parents to check and guide in time, fully mobilized students' enthusiasm, and ensured that students "ate" enough knowledge and digested well.

The particularity of English teaching in rural primary schools determines that it is a long-term and arduous task, which cannot be accomplished overnight. It is the cornerstone for students to receive English education in grade one, and it is difficult to build tall buildings without a solid foundation. This requires rural primary school English teachers to constantly update their ideas in the actual teaching process, improve their own quality, and constantly improve their teaching level in learning exchanges, so as to inject fresh blood and vitality into rural primary school English teaching and write a new chapter in rural primary school English teaching.
