An article introducing Canadian history (in Chinese and English)
The Blind Assassin, a literary work by Margaret Atwood, a contemporary Canadian woman writer, witnessed the history of Canada since independence with the history of Chase's family. In this historical writing process, Atwood described the victim characteristics of Canadian national character on the one hand, and clearly expressed his anti-American stance on the other. This novel also embodies Atwood's unique creative concept of historical writing-"left-handed writing". That is, unorthodox, feminine, postmodern and stream-of-consciousness writing style, from which we can see Atwood's unique historical present: history is not only a record of the past, but also a way of existence in the past.
Dressed in a Lion's Skin describes the life of immigrants in Canada who have no Anglo-Celtic or French ancestry. It shows a history that has not been officially written so far. The writer draws lessons from the Italian painter Caravaggio's "dark tone doctrine", and the contrast between light and shadow becomes the most obvious feature in the novel narrative, which effectively shows the theme of the work and rewrites Canadian history in the form of literature.
