The Natural and Humanistic Charm of Xidi Village in yi county

Xidi Village is located in the east of yi county, only 38km away from Huangshan Mountain. Xidi Village was listed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 2000. It is a representative ancient village in southern Anhui, famous for its pastoral scenery, well-preserved village form, exquisite Huizhou folk houses and colorful historical and cultural connotations.

Xidi Village, surrounded by mountains, is known as "the home in the Peach Blossom Garden". According to legend, this village was founded in the Northern Song Dynasty and flourished in the Ming Dynasty.

The stone archway at the entrance of the village bears witness to its long history. The owner of this archway is Hu, who was born in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. Because of his outstanding achievements as a secretariat in Jiaozhou, the emperor at that time allowed him to build this stone workshop. In fact, Xidi Village has built 13 archways in history, mostly for filial piety and chastity. Now there is only one wall left, which has become the landmark building of Xidi Village.

Some people say that Huizhou architecture is like an ink painting, and now we are walking in this ink painting. Only in this rainy day can Huizhou architecture show its unique charm. Two clear springs pass through Xidi village, and we wander like running water in this Huizhou folk house. Xidi Village has 99 high walls and deep alleys, each with its own characteristics. The rainy and sunny weather makes these ancient buildings look like both the aura of mountains and rivers and the essence of customs and culture.

Huizhou ancient villages, which seem to be staggered in time and space, have not only attracted many tourists, but also won the favor of many great directors, such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Legend of Wulin. Huizhou architecture attaches great importance to geomantic omen. This design is a concession philosophy handed down from Huizhou people. A "step back" stone tablet is embedded above the doorway under the attic. The feet of the whole attic have shrunk by one meter, while the upper part is square and angular. It means "there are edges and corners on the top and no edges and corners on the bottom".

Han culture is embodied in a simple stone pillar and a seemingly inconspicuous plaque in Huizhou architecture. The unique cultural inheritance has created the unique character of Huizhou people, which is low-key, introverted, not revealing wealth and not showing off. Flowers have been integrated into its architecture, painting, calligraphy and other fields, forming a unique Huizhou temperament.

In the dear hall of Xidi village, there is also a special word written by Zhu, a philosopher of the Song Dynasty. One side of the word "filial piety" is upward, that is to say, if you are filial, you can hold your head high and be a man. On the other hand, this face is like a monkey, just like a monkey, just unfilial, just a monkey. Filial piety can only raise one's head and be a man, otherwise it is a monkey.

Xidi Village can be listed in the World Heritage List because of its "Xanadu" temperament and historical and cultural characteristics.
