Is there a big difference between Yunnan embroidery and Suzhou embroidery?

South of Caiyun is a colorful picture in the southwestern frontier. Among the picturesque mountains and rivers here, 26 ethnic groups have nurtured rich cultures with their own characteristics.

Among them, there is one folk handicraft that can amaze everyone who has seen it, and everyone praises it for its exquisiteness, that is Dian embroidery.

Various ethnic groups use needles as pens and use unique techniques to pull silk threads, presenting the great rivers and mountains on the beautiful scenes.

One stitch and one thread makes a big difference. Different from my country's four traditional famous embroideries, Su embroidery, Shu embroidery, Guangdong embroidery and Hunan embroidery, Dian embroidery is the collective name for the embroidery of all ethnic groups in Yunnan.

It can be said that in the world of Yunnan embroidery, there are many "sects", and the embroidery of different ethnic groups has its own characteristics.

Although everyone uses the same tools, Yunnan embroidery works from different regions can be distinguished at a glance by knowledgeable people.

The Naxi people of Lijiang, who have lived under the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain for generations and surrounded by clear water around the ancient city, have strong elements of life in their embroidery.

Naxi women like simple and heavy tones when embroidering, and they are very particular about the application of colors. The bright colored threads are often paired with black or white backgrounds to make the colors bright but not frivolous, black and shiny, and gold and silver threads and gold and silver threads are added.

The pieces are embellished to achieve a colorful, bright, soft and pleasing effect.

The Yi people, who are widely distributed and have a large population, also have their own embroidery style.

Most of them have black, yellow or red as the primary colors, and are paired with other bright colors.

The embroidery patterns are mainly the patterns and symbols of the Yi people, including abstract symbolic patterns, as well as specific patterns of mountains, rivers, flowers and animals.

The "Golden Flowers" of the Bai ethnic group by the Erhai Lake in Cangshan Mountain are all skilled in embroidery. They have their own insights into embroidery. The Bai ethnic group has a very delicate feeling about life. They not only embroider their clothes, hats and beddings, but also embroider a sewing kit, shoes, etc.

Don’t “let go” of any aspect.

The background color of Bai embroidery is generally white in traditional clothing, supplemented by light blue, pink, rose red, purple red, black and blue.

Their use of color seems to be connected with the surrounding life. Looking from the Erhai Lake, you can distinguish this distinctive ethnic embroidery with just a glance.

The Dai people in southern Yunnan also have their own distinctive embroidery.

Dai girls usually use white yarn as the warp and red and black wefts for embroidery. The pattern consists of several different patterns.

The colors of embroidery are bold, and colors with the same brightness are often placed on the same piece of cloth, but they do not appear abrupt, but have a unique flavor.

The patterns of Dai embroidery are also mostly related to the tropical rainforest, including elephants, peacocks, flowers, Buddhist temples, human patterns and some patterns with ethnic symbols.

The materials are mostly made of cotton or silk thread, and sometimes gold thread is added to make it more brilliant.

Zhuang girls start learning hand embroidery when they are young. Each embroiderer's technique is very skillful, and it can be said that the needlework is perfect and the thread is effective.

Their embroidery patterns are famous for their elegance. Lotus, unicorn, gourd, flowers and longevity pictures can be seen everywhere on daily necessities.

The patterns are also very particular, including string patterns, water ripples, checkered patterns, cloud and thunder patterns, etc., which fully demonstrate the exquisite craftsmanship of Zhuang women.

In addition, there are many embroideries of Yunnan ethnic minorities, each of which is impressive.
