What is chess listed as the national game?
A chess game originated in China. Two people take turns to walk, and the winner is the "dying" or "trapped" opponent. Chess has a long history. China had the name of "Chess" more than 2,000 years ago. The river boundary on the chessboard is called "Chuhe Han Jie". This may be influenced by the legend of Chu and Han contending and Han Xin playing chess, which was added by later generations.
Since 1956, chess has been listed as a national sport and there are national competitions every year. China chess is widely spread in Southeast Asia, and the 1 Asian Chess Championship was held in Macau on 1980. China Chess Team won the team championship in two Asian Chess Championships.
At present, there are nine grandmasters in China: Yang Guanlin, Li Yiting, Hu Ronghua, Liu Dahua, Li Laiqun, Lv Qin, Wang Jialiang, Zhao Guorong and Xu Tianhong.
