Introduction to Banma's article:
B ā n bān m m?wén zhāng, an idiom in China, pinyin is b ā n m mé w é n zhā ng, which means historian Sima Qian and Ban Gu in Han Dynasty are also called; Generally refers to articles comparable to Ban Gu and Sima Qian. —— Excerpted from Zou Linyou's Notes.
"Ban" in "Ban Ma" refers to Ban Gu and "Ma" refers to Sima Qian. Ban Gu's works include Han Shu and Yan Feng Ran Ming Shan. Hanshu initiated the biographical style of dynastic history and became the main compiling form of feudal historiography in China.
Sima Qian's main work is Historical Records, which is the first step in the history of China, ranking first in the twenty-fourth history. So "Banma" should not be misspelled as "zebra" of animals.
Sima Qian (before 145 or before 135 ~ can't be verified) was born in Longmen (xia yang in the Western Han Dynasty, now Hancheng in Shaanxi Province, now Hejin in Shanxi Province), a historian, writer and thinker in the Western Han Dynasty. Sima Tan's son was appointed Taishiling, and was called Shi Qian, Taishiliong and the father of history by later Buddhas.
Sima Qian studied under Kong Anguo and Dong Zhongshu in his early years, roaming around, learning about customs and collecting rumors. This book records the history of more than 3,000 years from the legendary Huangdi period to the fourth year of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. It is the first of the "twenty-four histories" and is praised by Lu Xun as "a historian's swan song, and Li Sao has no rhyme."
