When is Christmas?

Christmas is a traditional Western holiday that falls on December 25 every year on the Gregorian calendar. Christmas originated in ancient Rome to welcome the New Year's Agnus Dei. It is the most important traditional holiday in the Western Church celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Most Catholic churches celebrate Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, December 24th, in the early morning hours of December 25th, and then celebrate Christmas Day on December 25th. The Orthodox Church, the other major branch of Christianity, celebrates Christmas on January 7th. The origins of Christmas are said to have begun in the 1st century.
