In ancient times, the Miao ancestors under five boys. The ancestors were so happy to see them return safely and find their partners that they used plants to dye the glutinous rice into five colors and steamed it into rice to entertain them, wishing the five sons-in-law to live in harmony, love each other and have a happy and fulfilling life.
Later, every March 3 of the lunar calendar, the Miao compatriots have to steam "five-color rice", eat "five-color rice" to commemorate the ancestors, a metaphor for happiness and reunion, life is full. This custom has been passed down to the present.
